Quick dust removal...

What is the safest way to remove dust from your car's surface ?
Most times I wash my Black Corvette Grand Sport after driving and then place in our garage. After a couple of days there will be a fine layer of dust on the surface of the car. What is the safest, paint friendly way to remove this dust before driving. With my old C6 Black Grand Sport I used to use Adam's or Pinnacle detail spray with a microfiber towel and spray and wipe off. The new GS's paint is excellent, no swirls etc. I want to keep it that way. What would you suggest I do to keep it in this condition ?

Waterless washes are utilized in nearly the same exact way as a quick detailer. If you find the quick detailer isn't sufficient, then use a waterless wash. It has higher lubricity.
 
I've had great luck with a California Duster over the years. Some streaking when brand new, but once dirty it works great. Has never induced scratches or swirls, etc. But...I have found it to be color/paint dependent. On my white truck, zero issues. On my Magnetic (metallic grey) Focus and my dark blue Lexus, it causes some streaking that has that hologram look (not sure what the correct term is). It's a surface thing and not anything being done to the paint cause I can take a MF and QD and very quickly and easily with one pass completely remove the induced hologram/streaks. I don't know how to combat this, but I think this is the safest way to daily/weekly remove dust and road grime, IMO.

If you have to go over with a QD why not just skip the California Streaker.
 
Well...I guess my philosophy is that the duster is lifting the dust/road grime/contaminants off the surface and now I'm wiping on a contaminant free surface, thus further reducing the likelihood of inducing something that wasn't previously there.

Good in theory, but doesn't always work especially on black.
 
Ultima Waterless Wash+ is perfect for this. Its an amazing waterless wash as well as QD duties. I recommend it to all my clients.
 
Ultima WW+ or Wolfgang Uber Rinseless mixed for WW. I prefer the Uber.

THe ending part of this sentence is "and dragging them across the paint"...........

My new favorite for Waterless is CarPro EcH2O. Wolfgang Uber is great too but I give the edge to Car Pro for slickness after though.

I would also if you've not already, apply a coating to the car. McKee's 37 has greatly reduced the amount of dust that collects on mine. It really has.

Yes, but not as a waterless wash. Ive used it at rinseless dilution and spray wax dilution. I tested CarPro ECH20 as well before its SEMA release and its another great product as well. We are very lucky in our industry to have so many great products at our disposal.

How is that any different than dragging a mf across all the dust and grime and picking it up and dragging it across the paint?

Lubricant is the key. See the post from conman.

I, for one, don't ever drag a Microfiber
towel across a dry, dusty surface.
Instead:
I use products that'll wetten surfaces.


•And...even though I don't remember
"grime" having been part of this dust
removal discussion...
-How well does your Duster safely
remove "grime"?

Why not drive the car BEFORE you go for a drive - that way it is clean while out on display - then come home, park it off dirty and only wash before you take it out?
 
I always tell my customers this....

It is way cheaper and easier to leave your car dusty than wipe it off all the time and pay me for correction every year. I'm not sure why so many people obsess over dust on the car. Just wash the car every week or so and let it get dusty in the meantime otherwise you may as well just put a cot in the garage so you can wake up every 30 minutes to wipe the new layer of dust off of your paint with your favorite QD :)

Only realized now the error in my sentence and its too late to edit... I obviously meant to say why not wash the car before taking it out, then come back and leave it dusty/dirty until you want to take it out again.
 
You said "quick" dust removal. The California Duster is one of those tools some people love and others hate. The CD works fine for "quick" dust removal and is safe, IMHO, if used properly. I've had colors on my vehicles from black to white and colors in between and have never had a problem. There are those naysayers who hate the CD who either have never used one or not used one properly.
