I've seen a lot of folks do it, but in the long run will mixing dawn degreaser with the car soap to remove road grime, bug residue, and tree wax hurt the clear coat or paint?

It isn't necessary every wash because it will degrade and remove the sealant. Doing it once or twice a year won't hurt it.

Will not hurt the paint in any way unless you do it every day possibly. Worst case scenario though is you'll loose a lot of longevity with whatever wax or sealant you have on your vehicle when you wash it this way.

Good to know. I use spray wax so it doesn't last very long to begin with. I travel close to 4000 interstate miles every 4 months for college classes, so I'll use dawn at the end of every semester.

You should look into a paint coating. The bugs and road grime will wash right off.

They will of wash off within a few days. Anything more than a week requires some sort of scrubbing in my experience.
