Did my Mom's neglected 2007 Land Rover LR3. Pretty good for a one step + sealant! Could have gotten much better results with m205 second step but this was a chore as it was. Sorry if the pictures dont work well, white is hard to photograph!

Materials:
Meguiar's car shampoo
Sonax wheel cleaner
Simonz detailing clay
Meguiars QD
Meguiars M105
Orange/black CCS pads
Porter Cable polisher
Tape
Chemical Guys Jet Seal
Chemical Guys VRP super shine dressing

Close up. Had I taken it a step further with m205 I'm sure most of the minor imperfections would have diminished.

After applying jetseal and VRP super shine. Woo!

Not a bad reflection considering how this thing looked!

Another before/after. Again a second step on this car was definitely indicated, but because it's a white car, daily driver and is about to see a winter I decided this was sufficient.

Things I learned:
1. It was my first time using M105 and it's the gold standard for a reason! Great compound! I had to use a bit of QD to extend the working time and it dusted quite a bit, but the results speak for themselves.
2. This was my first SUV. HOLY COW they take a lot more work than a sedan. My arms are about to fall off.

Thanks for checking it out!

Looks Good! How do you like the VRP from CG? I have some on hand but haven't used it yet. I like their silk shine and seems to last a decent amount of time. I got Adams VRT ina mystery box earlier this month and its only lasted a week, and the weather has been pretty here for December(40s-50s) lately.

Nice job! I love white vehicles when they are clean and shiny, on eof my favorites colors to work on.

Thank you! Honestly, it's not that great and I wouldn't recommend it. Doesn't last long and isn't "super" shine at all. The best for plastic trim is the gtechniq C4 I think.

Really? I feel like I can never get them to look "wet" unlike dark cars.

Looking good.

First time out of the box using M105 and claim it's the gold standard? Please tell us more about this exclamation and other compounds you have used.

Well, it is handy and readily available at your local Autozone in the states. It is good stuff. Might dust more than others, but does the job when needed. Personally, I'd rather use FG400.

I guess I've always assumed it's the gold standard because of the availability, price and flexibility of the product.

I've only ever used wolfgang swirl remover 3.0, m205 and some chemical guys polishes in the past so I guess this was my first time with a heavy cutting compound. Possibly an overstatement but I was surprised at the quality of the finish without using a polish afterward.

I was wondering the same thing.

Well I sure wouldn't consider it (M105) the "gold standard".

I do agree that SUV's are a chore. That's why I coated mine to make life easier. Just not as much time as I used to have.

Yea I suppose that was a bit of an overstatement especially with my limited experience. What would you consider the gold standard?

Ahh don't bring phish down just after finishing up his detail with successful results.😁

He's on cloud 9 and deservedly so, after all that hard work, as far as he's concerned it worked like gold and I give him thumbs up.👍🏽

[my post was not meant to be taken personal, I'm just being supportive]😊

Btw, just out of curiosity, what if he had said M101 instead M105? Would you guys still feel the same way?

I don't know what the gold standard is, never found something quite perfect yet. Every paint seems to require something just a tad different so I think it varies from car to car.

Your work on the Rover looked good, please don't let my comment discount the quality of your paint turn-around. :xyxthumbs:

Well done! No doubt Mom is pleased. Smart move not trying to put a show car finish on a daily driver......it's rather pointless.

Nice work. Just curious; what size pads were you using?

5.5" hex pads. Next time I get pads I'm going to try the plain flat ones.

You guys aren't bringing me down! I've just always considered the m105/m205 combo the gold standard of polishing. I'm excited to learn more about compounds/polishes so please chime in.
