Wow!!! :props:

Anyone here has a 7d and 24-70L? I'm planning on upgrading in a couple months. And want to know if you were happy with that camera and lens.

Great thread! What is with the license plate on the first page that says "Assman's Wife", is it the wife of a proctologist?

Well, here are a few pics of mine:

What speakers are they? I worked in a house before and the owner had 2 of them. They sounded so realistic and crisp compared to my Polks.

slickooz,

I have experience with the 2 equipment you mentioned, however I am not particularly fond of both of them.

7D is not a cheap camera. Yet it is just an APS-C 1.6x camera and it is still far away from a full frame. and 24-70mm lens coupled on a 1.6x crop will start from 38.4mm, which is kind of an.. um.., i call it embarassing range.

If you really intend to upgrade, get a full frame.
However as you (and me) are in Canon the 5D/5D2 performance is REALLY SLUGGISH I got Nikon D700 instead. D700 is so much smoother in operation but it takes time for a Canon user to get used to the Nikon logic.

and more about the lens, I found 24-70mm to be slightly warm toned which means it is ideal for taking portraits for Asians girls (vs the vivid tone of 24-105 4.0L lens).
BTW I heard that 24-70 lens will have a new version coming.

to conclude, I would say this is not a good time to invest in a 7D+24-70 lens if you do that for fun/leisure hobby. a full frame camera with 17-40L is real joy to use.

In fact I am looking forward to Sony NEX-7 coupled with Voigtlander 35 1.4 manual lens. These toys are light weight and fun.

Thats awesome how did he take that at night???

Some of the guys on here with photography experience could probably explain it much better but it has to do with LOOOOOOONG exposure time. I think it took like 30 seconds to take this picture. That allows the little light available into the camera.

I can assure you that it was pitch dark when this was taken. The only lights on can be seen on houses in the distance down closer to the coast. The picture makes it look like it is light outside but it was so dark that the you couldn't even see the chairs and such immediately below the terrace that we were on.

That is from a defunct speaker manufacture called AV123. The owner ran into some legal issues and the company shutdown. They produced great looking speakers that sounded well above their price.
That particular model in the photo is an ELT525 Tower.

Thanks PPLD, lots of very good information. I wanted something better but both 5dmarkii and 24-70mm seem to be outdated. And when the newer model comes out those will def be out of my budget. I going go check those camera out in BH to see what I like.

Those speakers are sweet. :props: Are you on Blu-ray forums?

I have both and I am very happy. I like the APS-C because I have a few EF-S lenses including a 10-22 which solves any wide angle issues; I love the 2.8 24-70 L. I also really like the 7D; I do some sports photography the higher FPS over the 5DMII is what made up my mind.

Now what I am really waiting for is a 5DMIII - I think that will be when I switch to full frame.

I like your B&W shots :)

One more consideration about the D700 is that it is long rumored to be at the end of it's life cycle. Great camera, one that I am looking to pick up used to upgrade my D300 for Volleyball.

Rumored Specs for D800 -

Smaller and lighter than D700
Resolution: 7360×4912 (36MP)
CF+SD memory card slots
Slightly larger display
Excellent video quality, better than D3s
Video modes: 1080p/30/25/24 and 720p/60/30/25/24
AF identical to D3/D700

Announcement has been delayed numerous times due to tsunami in Japan and flooding in Thailand, but it looks like a sweet camera. I will probably still scoop up a used D700 at a dirt cheap price as it meets all of my needs. Wish I could afford the D3S for it's low light ability.

Love this thread!

I thought is was made by them and no wonder I couldn't get into their website. The Stratas always intrigued me but I went with Axiom instead.

slickooz,

You are right. 7D, 5D2, or even D700 are not worth buying at the moment or you may get an used one.

Another possible option is to get an used Leica M8..
I have seen it as low as $1200 USD on eBay I think..
It has a crop factor of 1.3x and has impressive quality.
Together with Voigtlander lenses they are not unaffordable like brand new.

Leica M system equipment are are another approach to Photography IMO.
e.g. the smaller size poses less pressure on the people being photographed but there are so many things they cannot do better than a Canon / Nikon (sports, high speed moving objects).
It is all about pick the right tool to help you finish your task.

I can get a refurbished 7D for about 1163 shipped. Might pick 7D and upgrade to FF when I have enough funds. I like 24-70mm but like you said it might not be wide enough since its a crop camera.
