I decided to make a new post since it was a few days old and is unrelated somewhat.
I work at an used car lot. Every car that gets sent back from our detail shop has bad holograms and swirls. I don't know for sure for every car, but from what I have seen, they do some sort of one step product or compound with a wool pad on a rotary, and maybe apply a fine polish or wax afterwords with an orbital.. depends on who does them.
Although I can't achieve perfect results, I only use foam pads for the cars I do at work myself with the rotary. My results seem to be much better than the detail shops , but no where near perfection that I want to achieve. Even with the foam pads, their is still small reflective side holograms on dark cars, not huge lines or swirls though- nowhere near what the detail shop does. And now that I got my DA, I try and use that for most part when I can or follow up the rotary when time allows. And this is a major problem when working directly at a auto dealership is time. Trying to do the best quality work in the time allotted.
Can a DA with appropriate pad and product actually fix the holograms of a rotary?
As in - Do a test panel, strip it, and have a hologram free panel?
And on unrelated terms to get the most out of my DA 7424xp, I figure I need to downsize to a 5 inch backing plate like most say.
I do side detailing and also for work and want to get the most out of my DA without having to use the rotary, especially since I don't own a rotary for my side work.
Would a 5.5 inch - MF pad, wool pad, or yellow/orange foam be most effective for the most correcting? Which one of these would be a "go-to" with my DA and more effective for heavy correction when needed.
I currently am using the 6.5 inch setup with orange pad for correcting, and its just not cutting it for me. I tried it, but especially for my side details I cant be out on a job and not feel that I did the best work I could have done if I would have had different pads or products.
I will be using it with my XMT 1-4 products(which I haven't really tried yet,) and local detailing supply one step polish, sealant, and compounds since that's what was available on the lot. I obviously always try least aggressive approach first and work up but I want to achieve the highest standard of quality for my work and really do the best correcting I can do with my DA because as for now that's what I have to work with for my side work.
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advanced for the help. :thankyousign:
