Recieved another HOT CHECK. Advice on this one.

as a long time banker, I look at it a little differently. I would run the check thru once and if return stamped "NSF" then I contact the police. In Florida writing a bad check over a certain dollar level (300.00) is grand theft and your drivers license is immediately suspended. Imagine getting pulled over on traffic infraction on a holiday weekend, and having to sit in the clink for a long weekend !

For anything less, I too would probably alert his friends, family, or anyone that listens like the Sarge. Local dry cleaner posts them on a billboard for all to see in front of shop !

You won't get kicked out for being bad with money, but you can lose your security clearance and have your money basically handled for you.

If you lose your security clearance and can't do your job then what good are you? I have seen many people have their military career cut short due to financial irresponsibility.

Update.
Still no payment. I haven't had time to turn the check over to the hot check department.

I decided to call again this evening. He was pissed, to say the least.
Seems he got an Article 15 since I called his 1st. Sgt twice about the matter. All I have to say is tough crap.
He had major attitude. I told him if payment wasn't made on payday, it would be turned over and out of my hands. I told him I gave him more than enough time to make good on the debt, and any other business would not even attempted to collect, just turn it over to the prosecutor. He said he still don't believe I called his company to talk tot his 1st. Sgt. then simply hung up on me.

If he gives me any crap, I will make it a point to call his 1st. SGT. again, then turn the check over on top of that....

Good luck! The guy sounds like a real disgrace to the military.

He sounds like a real dead beat who had the intention of ripping you off.

Good to know this still works! Yeah.. he is pissed because he got his ars chewed out! Keep hitting him where it hurts.. your on the right track now! At least you got a reaction out of him... hopefully you will get some action next.... AKA your darn money! He didn't think you would do it... you got his attention now! Keep after him and his 1st Sgt.

Go to the Commanding Officer of his Company. Explain that you talked with the 1st SGT and have not received any satisfaction from either of them. If they know that you are willing to pursue this up the chain of command then you will break any buddy system that could exist. Also call the Adjutant General office on base and explain the situation to them. They will come at him from a different angle. You will find that you will get results in a bureaucratic system if you hit them with both barrels. Please keep us updated. I'd really like to know how it turns out.

As Jimmie said go to the Commanding Officer , then Adujtant General and I think things will move quickly . They can hold his pay until you get your money , I have seen that done . When I was in the Army the biggest thing to fear was the First Sargent . the ones I had could really make life a living H--l for you . I worked as a civilian on a Coast Guard base for nearly 20 years and saw similar instances happen and once the Commanding Officer found out the bill was paid and the offender really paid . Following up with the CO is the best route at this time .

Payday is Wednesday.....

If I don't get it by Noon, I'll make a few calls to the commanding officer and then up....

Thanks for the additional advice. I will make it a point to make his life hell until I get paid....

I thought payday was the 1st (thursday) and the 15th of every month, at least it was when I was active duty.

Well regardless, give him hell until you get your money or your stuff back!!!

How far is the base? If there is a way to do it in person you might get immediate results plus you could ask how to get to the AG office as you leave (trust me done deal). I'd swing by the AG and fill-out or take any forms that you might need (trust me done deal again). Those in charge know that they have a responsibility and interest in maintaining respect in the community by being good citizens. Wish that I could go with you.

The base is right down the road. I'll just have to play it out until the Military payday comes. Then I will take further steps after that.
