I Finished detailing the paint on my neighbors black Ford 150 today. The truck originally had some stubborn water spots and a fair amount of swirls and scratches. I didn't charge him for the detail since I wanted to get more experience detailing and also in exchange for some minor services needed at the house since he's an electrician. I experimented with various products and pads using a Flex 3401 polisher.
Mostly I used an Orange Lake Country 6.5" Hybrid (heavy cutting) pad with Menzerna FG400 for the correction step. The paint looked better than I expected and looked ready for a sealant after this first step. After I finished with a panel I would apply Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant since it took me a few days to finish the truck since I worked on it on my spare time.
On the last few panels I tried using Wolfgang Finishing Glaze with a White Lake Country 6.5" CCS pad after the correction step to see if it looked any better and I was surprised. The paint looked better and shinier using the glaze. I should have done the entire truck with this two step method but I didn't want to take too long with the detail and he was delighted with the results anyway. He mainly wanted the water spots removed.
Recommendation 1) I will need to order some more glaze or polish soon, something to use after the main correction step and wanted some recommendations. The WG Finishing Glaze worked good for me. Should I try something different?
The exterior plastic trim on the truck is faded and could use some restoration as you can see in this picture of the door handle.
Recommendation 2) What would you recommend to restore the exterior plastic trim?
Also, the truck had some areas where the paint had been chipped and needed some touch up paint.
Recommendation 3) What would you recommend for paint touch up?
