Recommendations of Wheel Cleaner

Hello All,

I was wondering if you could help me in deciding which wheel cleaner to get. I am using DP Gel Wheel Cleaner and it seems to do an OK job, but it does not remove harder containments. I have some brown dirt sports on my rims that I can not get off, not even with a sponge and some tar too.

if they are factory coated rims, then a wheel acid maybe what you need.

Try meguiar's wheel brightener (4:1).
 
Poorboys Spray and Rinse (use only as absolutely needed, follow directions)

P21S Wheel Gel (normal basis as needed)
 
DP Cleanse All for the tough stuff followed by your DP Wheel Cleaner.
 
meg's wheel brightener is amazing and you get alot for the money.
 
as long as you have factory wheels you can you Megs Wheel Brightener cut 4:1 once in a while to clean up everything that other cleaners leave behind. But try to keep your wheels clean. Clean them at least once a month (inside the wheel). P21S gel wheel cleaner is awesome stuff. Cheaper alternative would be DP gel wheel cleaner.
 
Thanks again. I wash my cars once a week and I use DP Gel once a week and still not getting the results I want... I will try the P21S cleaner and Megs to see what happens....

if you have Big Lot's near by, you can get OTC Megs wheel cleaner for $3.50 instead of $7 @ Kragen.
If you get Wheel Brightener, be VERY CAREFUL, as this stuff is so acidic, it can cause skin burns. Wear gloves and rinse yout wheels well, as well as your hands, before even taking gloves off...
 
I ended up getting P21S Wheel Gel and Cleaner and used them both and then a coating of PB's Wheel Sealant, and the rims look great!

Sorry to break in on this post but just curious about dirt spots on wheels, are they a normal occuarnce even if they are cleaned weekly or is it because they were left dirty for a while? I should be getting my first set of new wheels next week, just wasn't sure what to expect and what to buy as cleaners.....will a mild cleaner (i.e P21S) pretty much cover it, if cleaned every week?

I bought the car used with 13K miles (2006 Acura RSX S) in June of 2007 and the rims had the dirt spots on them. I have been trying to get them off with DP Wheel Cleaner with no success. I asked around and I ened up going with P21S both cleaner and gel. Worked great at getting the spots out, infact they are no longer there. I tried P21S wheel cleaner in the past and thought it to be too expensive but it does the job.

you may try to use the clay left from detailing the paint to clean the dirty spots on wheels~
 
Another tip, after you get your rims as clean as possible, seal them with a sealant (I prefer DG 105). This will make future cleanings much easier; all you should need is your regular car wash soap and some brushes to clean them, as the sealant doesn't allow the brake dust to stick as well.

I put PB's Wheel Sealant after I got them cleaned up on Thursday night.

I sometimes get a bit carried away cleaning rims and after trial and error - a lot of $$ error, here is my technique: rinse, wash with normal car wash, rinse, if bad - Megs Wheel bright 1:1, (spray, scrub, RINSE! - do not let sit) dry, polish with a Mother's mini powerball and the polish specific for the material, wash, dry, proctect with your choice - I like plain old AW.
 
If wheels are not to bad I use car wash soap, if I need some more power I use Meg all wheel cleaner or Eagle One
