I purchased a black on black Ford F250 crewcab last June. I have always had a black truck, so I know how prevalent even the tiniest scratch can appear on the paint. Not even a week after I picked the truck up from the dealership, the first of a long list of problems began to occur. During the first two months that I owned the truck, it had already been in the shop 6 times. The first visit was a head gasket issue, the second was a seal leaking oil, the third was due to faulty programming, the fourth was a sleeve that blew off of the turbo connecting it to the diesel engine and so on and so fourth. I haven’t had a single engine problem in about 8 or 9 months.

This however brings me to my next problem…Having had the truck at the dealership for service; I discovered that the magnetic tool holder that the mechanics lay over the front panel caused swirl marks all over the paint. I can handle the engine problems because they are no longer problems, but this makes me sick.

I was planning on paying some guys locally to detail my truck for around $200, but then I discovered this site. I have already purchased a Porter Cable 7336 from Lowes, along with the Dual Action Deluxe Foam Pad Kit from Autogeeks.net. I am completely new to detailing, but I a willing to take the time needed to learn. Please give me some recommendations on how I can restore my paint.

I had previously made a list based on what I've read, but as a newbie I do not know if this is ideal for my situation.

I appreciate your help.

 • Wolfgang Auto Bathe
 • DP Universal Detailing Clay w/ DP Universal Clay Lubricant
 • Poorboys 2.5
 • Poorboys 1.0
 • Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze w/ Wolfgang Deep Gloss Spritz Sealant
 • P21S Concours Carnauba Wax

Looks like a good list. Natty's might give more longevity to your LSP.

Your list

I think you're on the right lines with your list. Being a black-on-black truck you might want to upgrade to Souveran Carnuba wax instead of the P21S (personally I like the P21S - but it has a higher beeswax content for ease of application) the Souveran produces better results on black.

If you haven't purchased yet you might want to try the just announced line of Pinnacle XMT products, specifically for use with your PC. Let us know what you choose and how you get on.

Having used P21S and Souveran back to back, literally on the same car. Souveran is actually much easier to use (WOWO -- remember its removed damp with no real effort) and creates better depth and wetness. P21S only has the edge in beading (this is the real use of beeswax) and beeswax does absolutely nothing for a finish.

Does the Souveran have a recommended temperature range for application? I've been using the P21S for several years with great results. I purchased my first Souveran about 3 weeks ago and have just started using it. Maybe it is because it's still been cold here in the North East but it just didn't seem as east to spread on or polish off. (Temperatures have still only been in the Mid 50's, unlike you lucky Floridians). :p

I dont know if it is me, but no matter what i use -or how i use it- it seems i just can get rid of *all* the swirls mark on my "magic black" car. Well in fact i have just used Pinnacle´s ASR and SR, and the finishing polishing with a dual action polisher, before and after i applied Klasse AIO and before all this i used clay bar and all over again....I certainly see results on the finish but when i take a look on the car in a certain hour and i see the sun reflect´s, there they are.....maybe i have to upgrade to a more abrasive pad, or is that they are going to be there no matter what i do? maybe im expecting them to completly dissapear, which is not going to happen.....
