I'm getting ready to purchase my DA polish from AG and I have it down to 2 starter kits and wanted to get some feedback. I'm looking at the following 2 kits:
Wolfgang Porter Cable 7424xp Ultimate Polishing Kit
Griots Garage Swirl Remover Kit

There is only a $15 price difference between them so that isn't a big deal. It looks like the Griots DA is slightly nicer with a better warranty than the PC, but the PC comes with Wolfgang products that appear to be superior to the Griots. Any opinions on why you would choose one of the other or can I not go wrong either way I go.

You could try calling customer service see if they can throw something together for you if you don't like the polishes. I think the gg6 with the griots boss pads and creams is a serious combo. Also the McKees line is getting very good reviews and are usually priced pretty fair.

Not the exact answer you wanted but it's my version of saying I would get the griots unit, the warranty is unmatched and very easy to use

I really wish they had more combos for the GG6. It would definitely be a no brainer.

I have the PC and a gg3. I like the PC because you can add a brush and work on your carpet and vinyl tops. You will hear people that like both of them.

unless you plan on using every item in the kits, i would pick and choose each item individually...

I get a lot of people here locally asking for kit recommendations.

I always set them up with:

Porter Cable 7424xp
1 - 5" Meguiar's plate
2 - 5.5" Red Buff and Shine wax pads
4 - 5.5" Blue Buff and Shine polish pads
4 - 5.5" Green Buff and Shine light cut pads
1 - Meguiar's clay kit
1 - Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax
1 - Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
1 - Meguiar's Ultimate Compound
2pk - Meguiar's Supreme Shine microfiber towels

Wolfgang Porter Cable 7424xp Ultimate Polishing Kit $250
Griots Garage Swirl Remover Kit $235

Between those two, I'd go with the Wolfgang PC kit. Although it's missing a clay bar kit and not very many microfiber towels, and I'm a bigger fan of the GG6. I like dlc95's idea of building your own kit. I made some adjustments to his list...

Porter Cable 7424xp $125 or Griots Garage 6 inch $150
1 - 5" Buff and Shine DA Backing Plate (Save $5) $14.99
2 - 5.5" Red Buff and Shine wax pads $12.99
3 - 5.5" Blue Buff and Shine polish pads $19.49
3 - 5.5" Orange Buff and Shine medium cut pads $19.49
1 - Meguiar's clay kit $23.99 (consider a Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge if you have ONR or another lubricant already for only $12.99)
1 - Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax $14.99
1 - Meguiar's Ultimate Polish $10.99
1 - Meguiar's Ultimate Compound $10.99
2pk - Meguiar's Supreme Shine microfiber towels $17.98

Porter Cable Kit: $270.90
GG6 Kit: $295.90

With the current 15% off coupon you'd end up at:

Porter Cable Kit: $249.01
GG6 Kit: $274.01

And you'd save an average of $20 if you waited for a 15% off no exclusions code.

I kinda wish they would update the kits.

It seems like every time someone asks if they should get this or that kit, I start looking at them and think that there's got to be a better starter kit.

A lot of them come with the 5" backing plate, but they come with 6.5" pads. :dunno:

I think a "build your own" kit option would be cool. Pick your machine, pick you pad(many options, sizes, 6/12 packs), and add on a compound, polish, AIO, and/or LSP of your choice.

Mix and match how you choose and price will vary with selection, but you still get a good package price.

I went for a kit with a half dozen pads, and bought another 6. In a pinch, you can always go to the local autoparts store and buy some Megs Ultimate Compound and Polish. I believe a variety of clean pads will have more impact on the results than an expensive compound and polish on dirty pads. For almost same price, you could get this Lake Country - Porter Cable 5.5 x 7/8 Inch Foam Pad Kit FREE BONUS with 3 orange and 3 white pads, http://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-ccs-pack1 and thisMeguiars Favorite Four and this with a couple bottles of ultimate compound and polish. Then use your free for the wolfgang products to see if they work better for you.

the GG6, with their 5" DA Backing plate, 5.5" Boss pads, and Creams would be a killer kit...

ditto on what @Visitor said, but i'd say 5.5 Buff and Shine Low Pros or even 3D Spider pads(not sure if AGO stocks these yet.)

Instead of giving you a machine & the extras they choose, they should offer the machine in a kit with your choice of several different brands or types of pads, polishes & extras. Maybe 2-3 different options to choose from.
