Red light and speeding cameras

here in the inland empire (riverside/corona, etc,) area of southern california they slowly got rid of them over the past few years. guess it was costing too much money or they weren't making enough to keep them there...

Hate 'em. Hate 'em....

I hear ya. We moved to Chicago area back in 2010 for work for 2 years and that was my first experience with them. I worked in the city and lived in Downers so i had to deal with many. Let me also say it seems like your yellow lights are quicker than other areas.

I miss Downers Grove and the Chicago area.

They were all the rage here in Texas for a while. I find them to be somewhat unconstitutional because if you call the police department that "issued" the ticket, and ask to set up a meeting with the officer who issued your ticket, you almost always were told that they were not located at this department. So a sworn peace officer of this state, located in another state, issued me a ticket and I don't have the ability to meet my accuser?

There's plenty of websites and lawyers out there who make what I consider to be fair money guiding you through the process. The best thing you can do is NOT LOG INTO THE VIDEO! Then they have a record of you logging in, thusly acknowledge you have received the citation. They NEVER send these things via certified mail, or request a signature. The burden of proof is not on you that you didn't receive it. The burden of proof is on them that you did receive it. The other thing is, in Texas, there wasn't a whole lot they could jam you up on if you never paid it. If you went to renew your license plates in person, there was a 50/50 shot they would renew them for you, despite the unpaid citation. If you did it online directly through the state, it didn't even blink twice.

I've paid them every time because my significant other / spouse both times logged in to watch the video before I could get to the mail box...

In Illinois an actual officer from the department has to review it and actually "issue" the ticket...cant be a third party. Not that that makes it any better

I've heard that about a lot of laws. I guess all enacted laws are just and there is no such thing as a victim when a law is violated.

BTW: when do I get to face my accuser?

Judge Salerno of Franklin Co has no jurisdiction where I live....

Illegal in minnesota due to the wording of our state statues and 'right to due process'. Paid for them to be installed for a short time, then paid to have them removed. Also paid for both parties to argue it all the way to the state Supreme Court.

Ohio's Supreme Court is presently
hearing traffic-light camera arguments
over SB 342---wherein they were out-
lawed, unless an Officer was present.

So what else has happened since the
passage of SB 342?

Police in some Ohio municipalities have
started to deploy Officers with hand-held
speed guns equipped with cameras, which
allow them to issue tickets more quickly than
having to personally pull drivers over.

Those jurisdictions are also quick to note that
these devices are completely legal under the
new law. I'm sure challenges to these devices
are also being drawn-up with rapidity.
