Can I apply a regular wax possibly like a collinite 845 or even others to my rims to protect from brake dust ??

I just put my Collinite 845 sealed winter wheels on today.

Yes you can definitely do it. It doesn’t last as long though of course. Typically for me with Megs ultimate liquid wax I get 2 cleanings with wheel cleaner or 3 weeks without cleaning.

I’ve used regular wax before, but I just put some Meguiar’s UFF on my wheels this past weekend. Small sample size, but it’s made a noticeable difference especially with the amount of brake dust from OEM pads on German cars. This is after 6 days including a couple of rainy days. Still looks clean.

Coat your wheels instead....I use McKees wheel coating, and my wheel cleaning is done with soap and water

I used a liquid wax . Megs gold in think it was . Seems to have stained the rims any ideas in how to remove ?

How do I know If they are clear coated ??
I dont see how the polish will remove previous stained rims from the wax???

Most painted wheels are clear coated. Unless the surface is anodized or powder coated.

You sure can.

[Watch and see what happens the next time
you wash the wheels. (Wanna bet that the
brake dust releases it grip on the wheels
easier than when they were unwaxed?)]

One caveat:
If you can...Re-apply the Wax after each wash;
it’ll help you to keep way ahead of the curve.

Prep properly and use any Hybrid or Synthetic wax and then clean wheels only using ph neutral soap. This gives me durability of more than a month.
Only use strong chemicals when doing next prep and application.

If your gonna wax just coat them. Will last longer. If not a lot of folks use the spray and rinse sealants with good results

Agree. Coating is the way to go. I've coated a couple sets of wheels and it makes them much easier to clean.

You can't find them at AG, but at least one coating vendor who sells coatings here offers 10ml sample sized bottles for sale elsewhere. It's the perfect size for doing a set (or two) of wheels.

I've been using FK1000p on wheels for a few years now. I agree a dedicated coating may be better, but I've been very pleased with the level of protection and longevity. I've tried Collinites, both 845 and 476 and FK outlasts both. I still prefer the Collinites over FK on the body, bit I think the hi-temp properties of the FK helps it last longer on wheels.

If your going to take the time to clean and wax your wheels that will only last a few weeks..why not use a wheel coating that will last months for the same amount of effort?
