REMOVAL of Glass Scratches with CarPro and a Griots DA

Are there any distortions from the glass being wavy where you did the heavier correction on the deep scratch?
 
Great write up. This may be the push I need to do my DD. Its sooo bad!

It's etching from the end of the wiper, I guess? Was like that before we bought it 60k miles ago...
 
Well I do believe I will try it.. Right after I save up enough to buy a DA and learn to correct paint! ;)

Sorry. Didn't know you were starting from scratch. If your going to work on glass I would get a Griots. The extra power and bale handle will be helpful, as, correcting glass takes a long time.
 
lol, no need to apologize.. After all I'm the idiot inherent asking newb questions when I don't even have the utilities to take advantage of the advice given!

But I'm starting slow.. And yes, glass will be last on my list. I haven't decided which DA to go with, so thanks for the insight about the Griots..

We all start somewhere! +1 on the griots, if I could go back, I would have got it over the PC
 
I never thought I'd run across this. I am grinning from ear to ear reading this thread. I have a 64 Impala with a terrible windshield. It was abandoned years ago, and I'm restoring it slowly. I think I will invest in this. Thank you for taking the time to share.

for the 5'' carpro pad which backplate size you use? Needs to be a 5'' or less?

Great writeup. I purchased the Ceriglass and CarPro pads in 3" and 5" to correct severe water spots on my 1991 Jeep. Used with my HF DA, and I can report that these products work great! Not only are my awful water spots long gone, I was even able to remove some light scratches as well. You'll need a lot of time and patience, and a little elbow grease, but the results are fantastic and worth the effort. I absolutely second the advice about keeping the polish wet while working it by spritzing with water. A tiny amount of Ceriglass goes a very long way, but you have to keep it wet for it to work. Also, high buffer speed and slow hand speed are key to correcting severe defects, obviously.


telmomassa- I used a 5" backing plate with the 5" pads and a 2 7/8" BP with the 3" pads. You don't need the glass pads to overlap the BP like you'd want with foam pads used on paint. In fact, you want as much of the pads supported by the BP as possible so that you can apply plenty of pressure on the full surface of the pad.
 
I agree with Red91Laredo, except that I have only used the 5" pads on my Flex. I was also able to even remove the wiper swipe arcs on the rear glass of my 2003 C Benz wagon.
Love it!

Follow up with some Aquapel and you'll be loving life and stuff!
