hey just wondering how i would remove a few scratches from my black honda civic they are on the driver side door, it was hit by another cars door. They dont seem real deep! All i have is a 8 inch 3m black pad and a rotary buffer, if you could give me the steps and products needed that would be a great help thanks .

Search for articles by Mike Phillips. Tons of great info and vids on using different polishers. You may need different pads, oh and:postpics:

Right! Do a search. Before you do, run your finger nails across the scratch. If a nail catches, or you can feel the scratch with your nail, then the scratch is deeper than you thought. Your search will turn up loads of information on how to deal with a deep scratch as well.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck, is it like side-swiped or door dings?

They dont seem real deep!

Lets hope so as factory clear coats are thin...

The black foam pad in the 3M line is a finishing foam pad, it might work but it's really not going to offer much if any bite for removing or abrading the paint.

3M Perfect-It Plus Foam Polishing Pad 8 inches

At a minimum you would want a polishing pad and you could do the job faster with a cutting pad and then follow up with a polishing and/or finishing pad.

You could probably knock them out by hand too...

  • Where are you at with this project?
  • What products do you have for use with a rotary buffer?
  • Can you add a picture?

:)
