As I just started using a section of a brand new Blackfire Polyclay II bar, I noticed it was leaving residue. Residue would be considered a mark left by laying the clay bar on the surface or general marks from rubbing the surface. While the marks were few, they were stubborn to remove. I tried wiping off the residue with a microfiber cloth and some more Blackfire Clay Bar lubricant, but that did not seem to help much. As I proceeded around the vehicle and used the Blackfire Clay Bar Cleaner/Extender, the residue left on the surface seemed to subside.

What is the best way to prevent this residue in the future as I use new sections of the the clay bar? Should I clean the bar first prior to using it?

I have used Mother's Clay Bar for many years and never suffered this problem. The Blackfire Polyclay II is more pliable. Thank you.

It sounds like you were not using enough lubricant and the clay dragged on a dry spot on the paint and laid down some residue.

I agree more lub, so the clay feels like its floating on the surface. I use ultra fine from pinnacle, never leaves anything but a super smooth surface.

Definitely a not enough lube problem

Try claying when wet, thats a good way to prevent
