I detailed a white Mazda 6 the other night, but couldn't get exhaust stains off the clear coat. Washed it, dried it, used the clay bar but still... the exhaust stains wouldn't come out..It was pretty noticeable on the white paint. Any idea on how to get this off without damaging the clear coat?

Have you tried using a paint cleaner?

After claying you should polish or at least use a paint cleaner.

I am not sure if it will work on paint, or if you would want to try this, but I used some P21S Multi Surface Finish Restorer on my chrome tips and they worked great. I belive this is primarily a metal restorer, but it said at the bottom of the description that it can be used on "newer finishes..." I'm thinking it can be used but don't put too much elbow grease into it. P21S® Multi-Surface Finish Restorer- This extraordinary German car polish from P21S will bring back luster and reflective brilliance.

Don't know if it was exhaust or what but I had some nasty stuff under my license plate that wouldn't wash off but I was able to take it off with a little bit of ultimate compound. I was going to use some paint cleaner but didn't feel like experimenting.

K thanks guys, I'm gonna pick up some meguiars paint cleaner and see how that goes the next time I see the customer.

For future reference, I wouldn't recommend using this product on any painted surface unless it's REALLY bad. Stick with bare metal as it can be quite abrasive. :xyxthumbs:
