Removing hairline scratches from simulated wood

Not sure if this is what you call simulated wood, but that's what I'm going to call it so here goes. I just bought a new 07 Impala and the simulated wood interior trim (surrounding the stereo, controls, and vents) has some hairline scratches in it. My fingernails don't catch so I'm assuming I can get those scratches out of there or make them less noticeable. I don't have pictures of them, what's in this thread is just a picture I grabbed off the web just to show you guys what I mean by simulated wood. Anyhow, is there anything I can use to polish out these scratches? I have Meguiar's Plastic Care, will that work?

Any finishing polish should be able to take care of that. I usually use menz 106.

I have M205 and 85RD, are those safe to use for this application? I take it the Meguiar's Plastic Care kit probably won't get it done for me?

Start with 85 and if that doesn't work 205 should be fine. I don't know what kit that is, but if you already have those polishes there is no need to buy another product.

:iagree: Don't forget to mask off the interior vinyl/leather it will be a pain to remove the polish.

Once masked off, a polishing pal may prove to be useful with different aggressiveness of pads

Good idea, especially with po85 since it's purple and the interior on that car is very light!

I agree with the different pads, but I would think the polishing pal is just too big for most interior surfaces like this.
 
I was just going to do it by hand with some pinnacle and/or meguiars foam pads. Are you guys speaking of using Lake Country pads with a DA?

no way! lol. I cant imagine the mess/damage using a da on the interior would cause. I've polished door jams, but that is as close to the interior as any of my machines have ever seen. You should have no problem removing the scratches by hand.

I put that there because this thread has a lot of valuable information for these types of detailing projects and it actually has some great how-to information and some great before and after pictures.

So for anyone reading this now or into the future... click on the above link and read through the text as it's pretty detailed as far as what it takes to actually use your fingers to remove swirls and scratches by hand. The pictures reinforce the how-to information.
