So I received my GG DA on Thursday and put it work on Friday. Unfortunately I was only able to do my hood but I expected that. The paint was neglet and had many lightand moderate scratches but both were only visible at an angle when the florescent light shine on it. So I put the meguiars ultimate compound to work and divide my hood into four sections. I worked over the UC 5-8 passes and the moderate scratches still remained. I gave up after and hour and figured I would work on it again today so I topped it off with meguiars 205. I was a bit dissappointed that I still had very light swirls on the hood after working the 205 over. I worked in small sections and with slow arm movement. Is there anything that I am doing wrong that both types of scratches still remained?

u need more passes or u r not working polish long enuff

u have 105/205 correct?

No, since I am still new to this I am working with meguiars ultimate compound and 205. I also have ssr 2.5.

Google Kevin Brown Method. You need to apply pressure. What pad?

I am using 5.5 LC CCS orange for the Ultimate Compound and used white for Megs 205. After reading the KB method I will be using the black pad with the 205. I think that my problem is that I didn't put enough pressure. I will do a quick wash then proceed to redo the hood and hopefully accomplish doing the whole car on Monday.

MUC you can work for a while, keep working it, if it starts to dry up, spritz it qith a qd and it will keep on going, i find it works better if you do 10 passes or more. i ussually use a coarse green pad with MUC and get excellent results

Will do thanks for the advice. If things go well and I get the correction I'm looking for I will move on to the whole car.

keep working it, wipe a small section off to check if defects are removed, if not - keep going :) SMAT technology is pretty cool

Well today will be the day I will spend trying to accomplish removing all the manageable scratches. Hopefully I'll be able to complete my project today. I think since it did rain today I'll be able to finally use the ONR that I received from my order.

I am assuming this should be done with the M205 also correct?

i don't have a ton of experience with m205, but it utilizes the same technology, i would agree

Ok, so I've been working with the meguiars ultimate compound with the orange pad. I have yet fully get the results that I've been seeking. It has done a great job getting swirls and minor scratches. There are scratches that I expected it to remove but was unable to. Now mind you I've been only able to work with the hood and I've spent a total of 3 hours on the hood alone. My question is should I move onto to the yellow pad or should I move onto m105?

Buffing out a car is basically slicing your car up into sections and then buffing out one section at a time until you go around the entire car.

Technique is everything when using a DA Polisher.

Besides the above video on how to make a Section Pass, here's an in-depth article that goes over everything related to using a DA Polisher.

Yes I have been doing section passes. Just a side info I am working on a 93 bmw 325is. I have divided the hood into four sections. The meguiars ultimate compound has taken out 80% of the defects but has not taken out the hair line scratches only visible when looking at the reflection of the light on the hood. My nail in no way catches onto the scratches. I am aware that I am still new to this process but I have read the how to articles on section and swirl and scratch removal extensively.

something to remember, you technically aren't removing the scratch - but rather removing everything around the scratch. make sure there's clear coat left is my point
