Hi All-

I would first like to say I am new to car detailing and am extremely impressed with this site and all the How-To articles; they've been very helpful at pointing me in the right direction.

My car was recently keyed down the driver and passenger side door and the 2 body shops I've taken it to says that the whole panel needs to be redone, but I am hoping this is not the case. Here is the damage:

This scratch starts about half-way down the driver side door and is very noticeable when I run my finger over it. Basically, from what I've read so far, I've come up with these steps:

Products I have:
Meguiar's Unigrit Sand Paper - 1000-3000
Meguiar's Ultimate Polish http://www.meguiars.com/en/automotive/products/g19216-ultimate-polish/
Meguiar's DA polisher (Drill attachment) with Polishing Power Pads (Yellow foam)

1. Clean surface area

2. Use a tooth pick and touch up paint to fill in the scratch. Apply 3-4 coats and allow ample drying time.

3. Wet-sand to level out the paint. I was thinking about starting with 1000 grit and finishing with 3000.

4. Polish the surface to remove sanding marks. I see that most people use a wool pad to remove sanding marks. Is this to keep the heat down so the touch-up paint won't transfer? I do not have a rotary or wool pad, I do however have a Meguiar's DA that attaches to my drill and Meguiar's polishing power pads(yellow ones, they are foam). Is it recommended to not use foam to buff an area with touch up paint?

Hopefully I provided everything and I hope I am on sort of the right track here.
