Return MT300 for Griots G15 or 21?

Hey all. I recently got a MT300. I didn’t even use it yet. I am a first time detailer so this will be my first DA. Autogeek is offering a great deal on the G15 or G21. With that deal the G15 or 21 would be $20 more than the MT300. Im just curious if its worth returning the MT300 and getting one of those. I would only be using it personally. On our Range Rover and a sedan. May use it on a family vehicle.

What do you guys recommend for a complete new guy? Never used a DA before ut since this is an investment. $20 more isn’t much.

G21 or 15 for me?

Keep the MT300. For the usage you've identified it will do just fine. I have a MT300 that I'm perfectly happy with.

Unless you're doing this everyday and you have the opportunity and means to try multiple polishers, just pick one and learn to use it. I'm sure you'll be happy with the results of any of them. Since you already have the MT300, just keep it and get to work!
 
And the G15 or G21 aren’t the greatest for tight spaces where you might need a 3” backing plate. I would only get a long throw polisher if I had another smaller one to go with it. If your plan is to have just one, keep the MT300.
 
get both as they will compliment one another. large throw DA's aren't going to be a one all type of polisher because it's limited to areas you can polish due to it's orbit size (unable to use a smaller backing plate other than a 5" or 6"). use the long throw for large flat panels and the mt300/GG6 (with the smaller 3" DA backing plate) for everything else. a great combo is both the GG6 and G15/21...

I can only get one of them since this would only be for personal use. So G15 really isn't for home detailers without a secondary DA with a 3" plate?

Right. There would be too many spots the G15 can’t handle and you’d have to do it by hand. Start with the MT300 and some day in the future add the G15 but not as a replacement, just a helper for larger and flat areas.

Is the Griots Garage 3 inch HD Backing Plate compatible with the Meguiar's MT300?

I’ll let someone else answer that as I have no experience with the MT300.
 
the PC/XP, MT300, GG6, HFDA all have the same spindle size so that shouldn't be an issue...
