Review: CarPro CeriGlass

Cory,

I removed a good bit of the waterspots on my dads windows with 105 and orange pad. Do you think that CeriGlass could take care of the rest or would that be too aggressive for just waterspots and not scratches? For the DA should I use this pad with my 3.5" backing plate?

Glass Polishing Pads, glass cutting pads, glass leveling discs, abraded discs, auto glass polish

Would anything from Diamondite be less invasive like the glasswork restorer?

Excellent, glad to hear your getting good results and on your way their.

I don't think it's too aggressive. Just to be sure, we are talking about the windshield. I would say no need for the glass pads with what your doing. A closed cell foam pad or probably even those orange pads you have should do it. If not, the glass polishing pads you linked look the same as I used. As always do a small test area just to be safe since CarPro does recommend to do that.

I'm not sure about the diamondite but my buddy Jim sent me some diamondite that I meant to test next to ceri for the review. Just didn't have enough time! I did save a section to test the diamondite with though.

Its mainly the window glass but I am going to do the windshield as well. So I can just use it with my orange pads to remove the remaining waterspots?

You stating that you want to polish your exhaust tips (are they SS on your Sky?)

Bottom Line:
I do have concerns (scratches, mainly) regarding you polishing your exhaust tips with CeriGlass or any other cerium oxide products.

Excuse my worries, if you will, but as I have mentioned, I've never knowingly used any cerium oxide to polish metals...And my concerns for your outcome, if doing so, hopefully were unneeded

Your windows (not your windshield) are most likely tempered glass. I have never polished tempered glass with any glass abrasive personally but that should do it. Be leery of using too much pressure or vibration with tempered glass and do a test spot before doing the whole window.

Update: (Polishing Stainless Steel)

I just spent a few minutes seeing how it would react to stainless steel. This is by no means comprehensive or even a good picture since it is almost impossible to fit my hand between the trim and the exhaust (let alone the camera). This was a few minutes of buffing by hand using a CarPro mf suede applicator since I can’t fit the applicator block that came with it in there. I taped off the one side and simply slid my hand in and out with the mf as there is no room to do anything else. It cleaned the s.s. very well but I can't tell if I could for instance have removed brass wool marks from it. I’ll be sure to do something more comprehensive with metals that are easily visible with a camera at a later date.

Thanks again Corey! I got my Ceri-Glass Friday and Saturday I gave it a go. I used a rotary with the Cyan HT and it took off the major water spot issue I had on the side windows. It made the glass super clean and the clarity was perfect.

I moved onto the windshield and had the same scenerio as you since the vehicle I was working on came from South Carolina near the coast. I found it cleaned the windshield very well but I had trouble removing scratches. My outcome was no where near comparable to your scratch removal.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great product for water spot and crud removal, but it looks like I need to fine tune my process for more scratch removal.

Thanks so much for this review. I wish I'd read it before I began working on my mother's windshield. The pictures you show at the beginning of this thread are exactly what's going on with my mother's windshield.

This is what I was describing in a previous thread as a smear. It looked like the windshield wipers had smeared something across the glass.

Today I used Optimum's Power Clean, a 1400-psi pressure washer, and Elastrofoam and I never put a dent in problem. I'll try some CeriGlass and see if I can restore her windshield.

Your review is demonstrative and thorough. Thanks a million for sharing your knowledge and experience. It's people like you who cause me to be an internet forum junkie.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get scratch removal results Dan. Did you go over it using a spray of water now and then to keep the product available? I have a couple other ideas that I can go over my process with you if you like. Feel free to pm me and I'll give you my phone number if its helpful. One thing you should do is apply a tapeline and do a section again so you can see if you are actually removing the scratches. It is time consuming and took multiple attempts to get them out completely for me.

CarPro Ceri-Glass Update: (Night Video)

This is just a quick follow up to my full review:
A couple people asked me why I didn’t have video of the after at night. As I had mentioned before I wanted to hit the glass one more time with Ceriglass to polish the areas I hadn’t touched yet and to go over it one more time. I placed a tapeline in front of the driver side in almost the exact same place as my original line. The idea was to have one line that has not been polished at all.

While I was at it (as promised) I tested Diamondite Re-surfacing Cream out. It was a sample my Dad sent me a month or so ago. Thanks Dad!! Anyway, I kind of expected the DRC to be a lot more aggressive. I used it with the glass pad on my Flex PE-14 and could barely see a difference at all even after a couple passes. I should have probably tried again on some other kind of pad but I did not. I moved back to the CeriGlass and polished out the remaining section on the other side of the tapeline.

What you see in the following video is the results at night about 3 days later.

Wow, thanks for the great reviews and videos. The last vid (12/22) is just amazing. It's hard to believe how much glare can be produced by the wiper scratches.

I recently bought a 2003 Caddy DeVille, and the car is mint, except for scratches in the windshield. So this is my next project!

I used Ceriglass, my PCXP, and an orange LC CCS pad to remove all the etched in waterspots off of my dads 1990 300zx's T-Tops. Worked like a charm! Corey's review (and that it was on sale at the time lol) inspired me to give it a try so thanks Corey!

Do you think there is any type of "glaze" per-say in this that it fills in certain scratches/defects? I mean, windshield companies have that polymer they use to fill chips in windshields and it's barely noticeable. I was just wondering if there was a glaze type additive in Ceriglass that some of the defects come back after sometime because it seems to work like a charm.

Good question IMO it does not have any type of filler in it. It may be possible but with ceriglass I haven't seen anything like that. After I polished it I aggressively cleaned my windshield a few weeks later before coating it. The swirls are still gone.

First off, thank you CEE DOG for this post. :bowdown:

This is just the kind of review I was looking for because I can really see the swirl marks in all my windows and I swear the tinting makes them even more visible.

I have read some reviews of the Lake Country Glass Polishing Pads where people have had the velcro backing coming off the pad after a few uses so I'm kind of weary to buy any. Did you have the same issue? I was also looking at the Griot's 6-inch Glass Polishing Pads, do you think they'd do the same job as the Lake Country glass pads?

Also, I have a GG polisher (can't afford a Flex and too much of a n00b for rotary), does it have enough muscle to get decent results?

I didn't have any issues with the glass polishing pads delaminating.

I assume you have the newer GG bought in the last few years in which case it definitely has the power to do it. With a DA it just takes more time, passes, and applications than a rotary.
