Review: Collinite No. 845 Insulator Wax

Nice review, Mike. I am also shocked this is your first time using this product. Very cool project you had there!

I have used and will use this product a lot. Not sure why Collinite won’t put a different cap on it after years of people requesting it. No big deal tho, I just swapped it out as you did.

I like paste wax personally but this and WG DGPS are about the only liquids I consistently use. Liquids are super easy to apply by machine. 845 goes on most of my winter details that call for a wax/sealant.

I have never had any hazing issues with this wax. Shake well, spread thin and let properly haze up.

I usually wear soft pants when detailing for obvious reasons with pockets that fit a bottle 845. I keep the bottle in my pocket and my body heat keeps it in a nice liquid state.

I have gotten over 50 applications out of one bottle..... I always machine apply then I just keep the pad in a marked ziplock bag. That way I always have a primed and ready to go pad.

I always felt that it is such a great value and a top performer. My respect to Collinite for making a great product cheap.
 
Collinite 845 is one of my favorite LSPs. It lasts for months and I have never experienced any ghosting. The secret is thin coats. A little goes a long way. It can be difficult to work with in colder temperatures for it will gel up. I’m still waiting for PBMG to come out with the Collinite warmer.
 
I enjoyed this review and the commentary in the thread. 845 is a hall of famer.
 
845 is probably top of my list for a durable, nice reflecting wax. I've only had the hazing happen when applied too heavy. I also do a second, final wipe down after the vehicle is complete with a new towel. I've had the same bottle for years, it just lasts.

Sorry for the slow reply. I haven't been on in a few days.

I don't remember exactly how much I used, but it wasn't much. A little goes a long way. I think I typically started with an nickel sized drop on the pad. After a while the pad will become saturated and I remember doing a panel or two at the end of the job with nothing but what already on the pad. As the job stretched on, I steadily applied less product to the pad.

I spoke to the owner of the Pontiac, he said the car looked GREAT on display in full sun at the show.

I asked him if he took any pictures and he said "no". I'm sure someone took pictures of the event so when I find some, I'll share them here.

I haven't used any product in years as I stopped having the time for detailing. However, I recently decided to get back into doing our cars, at least on an every few month basis instead of weekly as I used to. I successfully compounded and buffed out some scuffs and scratches my teenager had put on the car, and also washed, clayed, polished, and then finished with 845 for old times' sake (instead of the Klasse AIO which I also have on hand.) Must say that it looks very nice. I still prefer the warmth of wax over synthetics. Perhaps next time I'll try to use Meguiars spray hybrid ceramic with a topper of some wax after a few days curing.

But at the moment, the old girl looks quite fine and did well in the recent rains. I just go over the car with light spritzes of ONR and it's holding up so far.
 
Yep, the old baby bottle warmer is the key to making 845 easy to use. I've used both 845 and 476 and never had any hazing issues. I have no garage and have to apply wax in the sun or light shade. As long as I apply it thin, it comes off easy-peasy and never hazes.
