Well I took advantage of the Autogeek free shipping sale and purchased the VIP special. The VIP special was the DP Tire Coating. I had the day off from work so I needed something to do.

The kit included:

8 oz Tire Coating
32 oz Tire & Cleaner Restorer
3 Microfibers

What I should have done was pick up another Carrand tire brush. I have one but it's my tire dressing applicator and I did not want to cross contaminate any remaining product even though I cleaned the brush really well. I used a flex foam applicator. These applicators are great as they don't load up with product.

tire foam applicators, tire swipe

I labeled this one so it will be used only for the tire coating.

The product is white and it's a very thin watery liquid. I used a little extra just to prime it. I massaged it in a bit with my finger and spread around onto the face of the applicator. I probably used more than I had to but I got the hang of it as I went around to the other tires.

I have a Tuff Shine tire brush. This is the best brush I have used. Works really well.

My cleaning of the tires varied a little. I started off by using Meguiar's D143 to remove the initial dirt, grime, old Blackfire tire gel off the tires. I did 2-3 passes until I saw white suds using a 2:1 dilution of it. I followed up with 2 passes of the DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer. It still removed a little extra gunk of the tires. The reason I used Meguiar's first is because I have a lot more of that versus only having 32 oz's of DP tire cleaner. I didn't want to run out. In the end I have about a little more than half the bottle of DP tire cleaner as Nick from Autogeek recommended to use it liberally. I also had my Metro Blaster Sidekick to dry the tires prior to each cleaning as DP states to use on dry tires.

I cleaned my wheels while I was there with some Zymol car wash and various tire brushes. PBL wheel coating sure makes it easy cleaning the wheels.

I ended up putting 2 coats just to be sure I had even coverage with the foam applicator. In full sun this is what the tire looks like

In the shade the tire appears dark

My cheap product pop for those instagram users

I will post up updates on how this holds up for me. I have been using tire gels with these tires as they were finicky with a tire coating and it didn't hold/stick when I first got them. Hopefully they broke in and the tire coating sticks. I have used Turtle Wax Jet Black Endura Shine Tire Coating in the past on my previous tires and with that I have consistently seen 2-3months before it needs a re-coat.

The difference between both products is that DP is white and has a bluish tint when applied to the tire. The bluish color goes away as it dries clear on the tire. The TW coating is black in color and has a purplish color when applied onto the tire. The color goes away as it dries on the tire and retains that black color. The DP tire coating has a longer working time. It also streaks less.

Overall it looks good and I am satisfied with the look. It took me one tire to figure out how much product to actually use, so the learning curve is low. I do plan to purchase another carrand tire brush and use that next time when I apply it so that I can compare which applicator works best.

Not the kit I purchased but it comes with everything needed.

Fantastic review!!!
Pls keep us update how it holds :)
Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the review.:xyxthumbs: Look forward to the results. Take care.

Peace,

Thanks guys. I will definitely report back.

Took a 70 mile drive today and this is why I don't like these tires. This is the second coating that will not bond to them. Just when I think they are clean they start browning.

Going to try this again but it's just to hot this weekend.

That's why I'm hesitant to try coatings on customer vehicle's, afraid of comebacks

Ouch...that look nasty :(
Somehow my continental tires don't like to be dress even after a year...

There is something in the rubber composition that is keeping tire coatings bonding to these tires. This is the second coating that has done this. With tire gels it's ok.

The best way to clean and maintain your wheels is by using some automotive shampoo and water with a dedicated wash mitt. This is safe for every type of wheel finish. This is a very effective way to care for your wheels if you follow two things first maintaining your wheels on a regular basis and second you have a coating of protection on your wheels.

The product is a tire coating and not a wheel coating.

I can't see the picture, but what is the brand of tire? I've experienced the same thing.

I've been using the Turtle Wax tire coating kit and noticed different results based on tire brand. It works great on my VW's Pirelli's, holds up a few weeks on my wife's Bridgestone's, but won't last the first encounter with rain on my daughter's Continental tires.

I do the same prep with the same products on all three vehicles, so the only thing I can see that's different is the rubber compound.

Autogeek had some issues so my gallery was completely hosed.

These are the photos that were in the original thread.

After a 70 mile drive this is what was going on with the coating not bonding to the tire. Tires are Nankang Ultra Sport NS-II

Bumping this thread with some new information.

So I did what Nick recommended and did not use any tire dressings. Nothing was applied for about 2 months. All I did was clean them with Mothers Back to Black Tire Renew when doing a rinseless or Meguiar's D143 if I did a 2 bucket.

This past weekend I cleaned the tires with DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer. I then applied DP Tire Coating with a carrand brush. It is much better using the carrand brush versus the foam applicator I used the first time. I did dry the tire coating with the metro blaster sidekick in between coats demonstrated by Mike Phillips in one of his write ups. I went 2 coats on each tire.

Well after 4 days I am happy to report that the tire coating took to the tire this time. No browning after one day as I previously exhibited. So far so good. Thanks to Nick for his help.

For those looking to remove DP Tire Coating see the following write up.

How to remove DP Tire Coating

Well that's a good surprise.. It would've really sucked to have held out for 2 months without success.

I know on my own cars tires they're so far gone with Hyper Dressing that there's no turning back. Lol.

Have you gone on a long enough drive to really feel sure it's good to go?

I have about 50 or so miles so far. So I'm confident in saying it's good.

Just wondering if anyone tried to spray on the DP coating? I find the coating runs a lot using a brush and the pad works ok.

I put 2 drops on toothbrush and use that. I've done 14 cars and still have about 2oz left of my 8oz bottle.

Thanks for the review. I'm a long time user of Opti-Bond, but always looking out for new products to try. I may have to give this a go at some point!
