Review - DP Tire Coating

Just wondering if anyone tried to spray on the DP coating? I find the coating runs a lot using a brush and the pad works ok.

What brush are you using?

I had no issues with the running using the carrand tire brush.

Guz, What was it exactly that caused the DP Tire Coating to be successful this time with no browning? I see that you spaced out some of your cleaning steps, and started using a brush to apply, but don't see how those made the difference.

Thanks!

Ray

Bumping this thread with some new information.

So I did what Nick recommended and did not use any tire dressings. Nothing was applied for about 2 months. All I did was clean them with Mothers Back to Black Tire Renew when doing a rinseless or Meguiar's D143 if I did a 2 bucket.

This past weekend I cleaned the tires with DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer. I then applied DP Tire Coating with a carrand brush. It is much better using the carrand brush versus the foam applicator I used the first time. I did dry the tire coating with the metro blaster sidekick in between coats demonstrated by Mike Phillips in one of his write ups. I went 2 coats on each tire.

Well after 4 days I am happy to report that the tire coating took to the tire this time. No browning after one day as I previously exhibited. So far so good. Thanks to Nick for his help.

For those looking to remove DP Tire Coating see the following write up.

How to remove DP Tire Coating

This is was the key.

Ok, nice! I am going to save this write up. Def. good info to know, when I try this stuff out!

Peace!

Here are some updates.

This was taken after reapplication back on November 30th, 2015. Again this is after not using any tire dressings for a couple months.

Not the best view.

2 month update. I only clean the tires with either Meguiar's D114 if I do a rinseless and in those rare times when I use a 2 bucket wash I will use my Mothers tire brush and car wash soap to clean the tires.

It's doing quite well after 2 months. No browning of the tires and they still look really good after 2 months.

I gave the car a wash today. I'm going to call it at 2 months. I am going to go ahead and refresh it with another coat.

Went ahead and re-coated the tires with another 2 coats of the tire coating.

I used the sidekick to dry the tires and accelerate the curing time between coats.

I did use two rounds of Meguiar's D108 Super Degreaser at 4:1 with a tuff shine tire brush followed by two rounds of the DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer. This way I don't have to go through the DP tire cleaner too fast.

This is what the tire looked liked after it was cleaned

For those that are unaware, the tire coating is now available as part of the McKee's 37 line.

McKee's 37 Tire & Rubber Rejuvenator, heavy duty tire cleaner, how to remove brown from tires

McKee's 37 Tire Coating, long lasting tire shine

I applied it to my dad's car, and one of mine and I got basically the same look you display above. My dad's car was three weeks ago and still looks like I applied it yesterday.

This might sound crazy but I use a paintbrush to apply optibond, That way I dont waste product and its easier to apply. Dont know if it would work with these but I dont like the carrand or eagle one applicators

Like the TW coating I like it BUT it does not work on my truck tires. I can see that there is a coating but it's dull and looks just ok to ah. i will have ti find something else to clean them with but I don't think it would help at this point.

I also found another brush to use as well. It's bigger then the tooth brush so I think it goes on faster.

Save yourself the hassle and invest in these

Either one of these tire brushes to clean the tires.

Carrand Brush & Shine Tire Dressing Applicators, tire brush, tire shine applicator

I used this for application.

Carrand Brush & Shine Tire Dressing Applicators, tire brush, tire shine applicator

The trick I have been using with the carrand brush is to squeeze it between my index finger and thumb so the bristles are close together. I then dab the product onto the applicator. This way it doesn't run down the bristles.

I am wearing gloves while I am using the tire cleaner and coating.

Those Mothers brushes are great for cleaning trim areas.

Are the Dp products available any longer? Thanks. Phil

Not sure what Hassle your trying to save me from and I like the tire brush I already have.

I prefer the trim brushes, they work for me.

Yea they work good for that as well

Another update. I went 2 1/2 months since the last time I used the tire coating. It could have gone 3 months easily. I decided to reapply it. I went with 3 coats on each tire this time instead of the usual 2. I was curious to see how it looked with 3 coats.

Here I have prepped the tire with 2 rounds of Meguiar's D108 Super Degreaser at 4:1 followed by 2 rounds of DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer

I will see how long 3 coats last compared to two that I have been doing. I didn't notice too much gloss compared to two. But it was a tad overcast.

I have been happy with this product.

Its been probably about the same time since I applied this to my dads car. While the gloss has mostly worn away, the tires still have a nice satin sheen to them. I am impressed the coating has held up this long.
