Greetings everyone! I decided to try out a new to me product today, Duragloss #481 Wax Eraser. A long time ago I decided to bump some black plastic trim on my car to see if a wax (can't remember which wax) would stain the trim, well it did. I received DG WE for Christmas and put it to use today.

Products Used
Duragloss #481 Wax Eraser
Clean cotton terry towel, not microfiber

Package
Similar to shoe polish
Weight - 4oz.

Price
$5.99 retail

Label Description
Removes chalky wax & polish residue from textured surfaces

Directions
Clear and easy to follow

1) Remove cover and press sponge against surface to saturate chalky surface.

2) Wipe with a clean cloth while surface is wet.

3) Repeat above for heavy chalky surfaces.

4) Apply #271 Flat Black & Rubber Bumper Dressing for durable protection.

5) Will not harm paint or glass surfaces.

The Test

As you can see in the picture below, the wax residue is very obvious.

The sponge applicator tip is not meant for scrubbing the residue, that's where the towel comes into play. To start out I saturated the area with the product and waited about 30 seconds before wiping off. Here are the results from round 1:

Not bad but not complete. The next round I decided to allow the product to dwell about 1 minute before scrubbing with the terry towel. This proved to be ideal. The results after round 2:

A little better, but this time I decided to wait about 2 minutes. During this wait the product started to dry so I simply wet the area again before scrubbing. This proved to be the ideal method for me. Round 3:

At this point most people would say good enough, not me. After the success of saturating the area, waiting about 2-3 minutes and wetting the area again, then scrubbing with a terry towel, I decided I would try one more time. Here are the results from the 4th and final round:

None of the pictures were enhanced, only re-sized using Kodak EasyShare software. The trim has not been dressed, just cleaned.

Pro's:
Works as described, very cheap, smaller bottle makes for easy transportation

Con's: While not a con for the product itself, just be prepared to use a little elbow grease. Now I have to clean the rest of the wiper cowl!

Final Note

As long as you keep in mind that you are removing wax from pebble textured, plastic trim and not wax from paint I think you may find yourself pleased.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I know it's nothing like CEE DOG's reviews, but hopefully someone will find it helpful.

Great review Richard - thanks for doing it.

Nice to see a different kind of product get a review.

Good review, I was stuck between getting this or the Griots wax remover. I ended up getting the Griots one. Once I get it and use it I'll have to compare the results.

Awesome review Richard! You covered everything that matters in a well written, orderly and direct manner with pictures that show the whole story. I am almost ready to buy but now I'm curious if using opc and a toothbrush would accomplish this task with the effort that was involved.

Thanks for taking the time to record and share this Richard! I think that might get added to the next order.

This is my method of choice. OPC and a Meguiar's Triple Duty Detail Brush works great for removing wax/polish from cracks and crevices.

However, this has not stopped me from also recently ordering the DG Wax Remover, and after reading Richard's review, I am looking forward to using it.

Thanks for the kind words. I do plan to try out OPC and a couple different brushes, but I wanted to give this product a shot too. I wouldn't mind experimenting with the Griot's version as well.

A pink or white pencil eraser will take wax right off trim...

I guess this needed a bump, what with Nicks review without words that he just posted. Very timely bump and now I have another opinion. It's on my Wish List. Thanks Richard.

Great review i used the wax remover but did use a tooth brush to get into the grain of the plastic an had no problems, bought the griots wax remover, could not get it to work, it would bead up on a rag an not soak in, would not adhere to the trim, an after it dried the wax was still on the plastic trim. jonathan
