Review: Duragloss Car Wash Concentrate

Kurt, The real question is in!

For my Sky I use Ultima wash and will continue to for now...

For my two SL's and any other cars I usually use Megs GC. Once I finish the Megs GC (a few months) I will definitely switch. Probably to DuraGoss but I do have to try the Optimum Car Wash first.

I have the DG and Opt on my list to try. I forgot how nice Megs GC is until I used it again this weekend. I should have a sample of 901 for this weekend to try. I want to order some Opt to try like you.

Why do you like the Ultima? Because it matches your UPGP?

The Ultima wash is very slick and is hyper concentrated. You get about 22 washes out of one $13 bottle. Comes in a 22 oz. bottle and you only need one ounce for your 5 Gallon wash bucket. Also, you are correct! :) I like how it works with my Ultima Sealant.

Corey,

Thanks for answering my questions.

Does Ultima work differently (and well) with other finishes?

With Megs GC recommending 1oz per gallon, the cost per wash with Ultima should be less than GC.

Don't listen to Corey, it will only cause you to go buy awesome products that leave you feeling very satisfied with the results.

My pleasure Kurt,

Ultima absolutely works great with any type of sealant or wax you have on your car and it will not remove any lsp.

After you made that statement about the price I thought "really?" I had considered UPGW to be a fair bit pricier the GC but after thinking about it for a second you are certainly closer then I was. Take a look at this chart: (I used the current AG prices of each item)

Corey,
Directions suggest 1 oz per gallon or 5 oz per 5 gallons for megs GC. You calculated with 4 oz per 5 gallons so the price for GC is $0.59 per wash like Ultima.

You may be using an inexpensive car wash that safely bathes your Sky Baby with luxurious, lubricating bubbles.

Bubbles mean nothing these days, if anything to simply show soap is in the water. I'll take a lube happy soap ever a bubbly one any day of the week.

Also CWC is 1oz per gallon water. Makes cost comparison go up compared to Ultima (and others).

Do I get credit for mentioned luxurious, lubricating bubbles and not just bubbles?:laughing::laughing:

I thought that Opt car wash was cheaper as well.

Very nice review!! I was looking at that product at a local auto parts store but didn't get it. I guess I shall now. Maybe you can use the tiger striped front bumper of that green Saturn for a Poorboy's Trim Restorer review.:dblthumb2:

Yes, I thought you might say that and you may be right. I figure I end up with about 4 gallons of water. Because the direction for UPGW say to fill the 5 gallon bucket with 3 gallons of water, add the soap and then finish filling the bucket. Once you figure the suds in I figure about 4 gallons. Either way, were talking pennies now.

I completely agree but I don't think Kurt was saying that bubbles in and of themselves make it any safer.

If you notice in the video I stir the bucket with my arm to mix the solution rather then just jamming it with water the whole time. Part of the reason is I like a consistent lubricating mix.

Maybe you're right and I should have shown this as 4 oz instead of 3. I don't have the actual bottle in front of me telling me the recomended ratio and 3 oz worked really great for me. I used about 3.5-4 gallons of water with 3 oz. of DG CWC for my review if I remember correctly

Absolutely :props:

Seriously, bubbles in and of themselves mean nothing but sometimes I find the suds to be very thick as I did with DG or very lubricant heavy as I do with UPGP. These traits must be a benefit as you will undoubtably end up with suds on your car and those suds are better off "luxurious, & lubricating" then otherwise.

I thought that Opt car wash was cheaper as well.

I did too!

Thank you!

You won't be dissapointed.

It is very funny you should say that. I've got a few products I've been thinking about using there for months. Last week when Tad sent me this DG he also sent me a sample of PB TR and I decided I was going to use it there. I even mentioned to Tad that I had a special job on my Green saturn for that product.

I do the same thing!

I'm shocked you didn't use Ultima Tire & Trim Guard.

That is actually exactly what I was going to use untill I saw that PB sample from Tad. I've used the UT&TG and love it! Now I must try this PB. Maybe a 50/50 is in my future

I do the same thing Corey. I add the soap in after I've put water in the bucket. I do this to not fill my bucket with useless suds.

Thank you for the review! Like you, I too am not a great fan of the cherry-smell, but I like the product.

I have a hard time comparing different car wash products. I have now tried Duragloss 901, Meguiar's Gold Class, Meguiar's NXT, Meguiar's Wash & Wax, and Turtle Wax Ice. They all seem to get the job done. I keep wondering how I'm supposed to tell which one is really better. I'd buy all of them again, with the exception perhaps of Wash & Wax (though I do love its smell). I think NXT may be my favorite, because it cleans and rinses off exceptionally well; but it's impossible to find locally.

The one car shampoo I would like to try, though it's more expensive than all the others I have tried, is Griot's. One detailer whom I respect swears by it. But it's so darn expensive!

That's all subjective really.

Just find one that meets your criteria. Is it slick enough? Does it smell good to you? Does it have long lasting suds (if that's important to you)? Can I afford to use it in the recommended dosage?

If Griots is "expensive", then it's not the soap for you. No matter how good it may be.

I know what you mean. I don't dislike any of the car shampoos I've used but I do have a definite feel for the order of preference!

What does he specifically like about the Griots?

Lubricity! He believes the Griot's Car Wash provides superior lubricity, thus providing the best protection against instilling swirls into the paint during the wash process.

So Cee Dog, I think you need to do a review of the Griot's Car Wash! :)

My favorite property of a wash!

Uh oh! What are you getting me into. Let me go check the description and price ......................... Well the price of admission isn't bad. They have smaller bottles so you can get a 16 oz. bottle for 7.99. I owe some more reviews to Old Tiger as well as one to Jon. Also was going to do one with the PB TR that Tad gave me. I will try to remember to order this next time I have an order and do a review on it :dblthumb2:

Corey,
Great review!
I have been using Duragloss soap for about a year now and really like it,especially the extra gloss it leaves behind.

I am curious as to how it stands up to your favorite soap- Ultima Paint Guard Wash. How to they directly compare in slickness, lasting ability, bubbles, etc.

I am close to placing an order for some UPGP and wanted to try some other products from the Ultima line.

I think your next review should be a face-off between UPGP and Optiseal as the battle of the WOWA sealants.

Jeff
