Review: Gtechniq EXO v2 Complete Kit

just to protect naruto19's sanity i thought it would be best for me to jump in here to give my 2cents worth.

first - chris didn't leave Gtechniq for product issues - working for the Gtechniq studio in Connecticut just wasn't his bag.

question to TDC - what was the interval between C1 application and EXO? I have come across one issue as you have and believe it is something to do with curing and it's something I am looking into in our lab.

the one case i have seen it on was on a maserati and it was an issue of the detailer having the wrong lights to notice the residues (you need diffuse light - natural light on a clear day just before sunset is best) and the coatings cured before he had a chance to fully remove the residues.

this was rectified by hand polishing and recoating.

feel free to message me or post here if you need more assistance.

What is the manufacturer's recommended curing times for C1 and EXO v2? More importantly, what is the optimal curing time (if different; in other words, would waiting 24 hours be better than the recommended 12)?

Thank for chiming in Rob. The Audi featured in this article still looks great.

Sent you a PM on lighting, application, as well as the pm's I had with travis.

I just ordered EXO. Should I use it or return it? Have the hazing issues been resolved?

Are you using C1 under it? That is the only time people have reported issues. Exo alone you are fine.

No, I had not planned to use C1. I feel much better about trying EXO given your reply and help. Thanks.

as above it seems to be an issue around putting exo over c1. of the many hundreds of applications there seems to be a handful that have had this issue. we are running test applications under various conditions to try and replicate the issue.

Unfortunately I did not heed the warnings of using EXOv2 over C1, thinking it was probably isolated incidents and due to process over the coating itself - I checked this afternoon (~36 hours after C1 was topped) and streaks appeared. I am 100% sure they were not there after I wiped the EXO off, they appeared the next day. The coating looks fantastic other than in a few trouble spots (I will hand polish off the streaks and reapply just EXO this time.)

Also, do NOT use GTechniq Panel Wipe on any clear bra. Despite emails between GTechniq NA and myself in which I specifically ask if Panel Wipe is compatible with 3M clear bras and was assured it was, it clouded my clear bra and the defects could not be polished out. Needless to say, I was/am FURIOUS. When I called GTechniq and said the problem, he responded, "well there are quite a few manufacturers, and we've had good luck with XPel film." I know there are quite a few, that's why my previous emails asked about the 3M brand, specifically. I've tried paint polish, plastic polish and nothing seems to work. Clear bras are not cheap, especially on Porsches. (Maybe some fellow geeks can chime in on my best course of action)

I have used C1 and topped with Exov1 one of my cars recently - within the past 3 weeks. I will say it beads amazing, and it does pop nicely in terms of glossiness. The only thing that's bugging me a bit about it is that it isn't as slick as I had hoped. Last night I topped the hood w some fuzion just to see if I can get some slickness. If I am not happy w that then fuzion will just wash off in 2 or 3 car washes anyway as it isn't supposed to bond.

Here is an example of the streaks from topping C1 with EXOv2. I checked my work after applying the EXO using the same method and there were none - they appeared the next day and won't wipe off, they will have to be polished off. Very frustrating...

It sounds and looks like a strange chemical reaction. Has anyone tried coating C1 with anything other than EXO? Or use a fairly chemically inert layer like Klasse High Gloss Sealant (mostly acrylic) between the layer of C1 and EXO?

it seems that the issue is if the exo is applied too long after c1 is applied. we recommend applying the exo between 3 and 12 hours after c1 (this is a window - it doesn't matter if you apply at either end of the range).

i had one of our Accredited Detailers visit Radarryan to fix this issue at our expense.

Awesome, thanks!

I applied C1 and EXO v2 today.

Seems to have gone well enough, but there is a learning curve for sure. (I have a nice C1 glove print on my drivers window. Have to scrape that one off!)

I applied EXO v2 about 8 hours after c1. I'll see what happens.

Haven't taken it outside yet, but under the lights it looks like a mirror!

Can waterless washes and spray waxes be applied after the c1 + exo combo? I'm assuming so but just checking.

Also. Can you apply another coat of exo v2 over an existing coat?

Now that a couple months has passed. How did this combo end up turning out?? Any problems with the streaking?? I'm debating on what to do. I have EXO on the way. I may order the C1...
