Review: GTechniq G1 Clear Vision Smart Glass

I used as per instructions and don't think i got a bad application.

Anyway, i bought a glass polish and will try that. Thank you TrKent for the tip. I have some G1 left and maybe will give it another try. If i do, i will update my results.

Best regards

I would give it another try. I've done plenty of applications including all of my family's vehicles with no negative effects. I have always prepped with G4 and have recently switched to using G4 on the Rupes Skorpio with MF pad for prep.

This is key when you are applying the G2 Residue Remover and buffing...

"We recommend buffing areas no bigger than quarter of a windscreen or half a side window at a time."

You should be able to eliminate most of the visible "High Spots" with the G2 and follow immediately buffing the terry towel.

If you wait to long between G2 and buffing or try to do too large of a section...you will do an unnecessary amount of extra buffing.

Well, after less than 4 months, i have to say, i regret for having used GTechniq G1 on my windshield. At lot of streaks, smear and compromised visibility. How can i remove the rest of it from the windshield? Thank you

brazuca, nice review, but ... ;)

You've made a basic mistake by not preparing properly your windscreen. You should use cerium oxide, or a product based on it - as DG NuGlass or Gtehniq G4.

IPA (or IPA like/based) is the products, degreasing only - not remove other contaminants from the surface of the glass.

I did my first G1 application exactly as you did: clay an IPA, and my G1 survive 3 months only ;) Next application i did with cerium oxide and G1 lived on my windscreen almost 1 year, aprox. 70000 km :) (sorry gents: 43750 miles ;) )
That's my #1 - from this kind of product:dblthumb2:

Thank you for the feedback everybody. I will definetely give it another try, it is clearly a problem preparing the glass before application. I will do it next month and update here my second impressions.

Best regards

GTechniq G1

GTechniq C1 - YouTube

Prepped with CarPro CeriGlass & CarPro Rayon Pad

Makes the wipers work much better and works at highway speeds.

Water does not fly off at 30mph. Maybe has to do with the angle of the windscreen on my Yukon.

Your Youtube video says C1 on the windshield, I assume you mistyped and meant G1?

Also has anybody tried Exo V2 on glass and compared it to G1?

Correct...G1 on the windshield of the Yukon.

I have had some issues with wiper chatter in light to moderate rain.

I recently topped the G1 with Rain-X to see if that helps.

I am in SoCal now, so it may be another month before it rains again and I can test them. The wipers do not chatter when used with the wiper fluid spraying. Blades are clean.

I would have tried Gtechniq G5 on top of the G1. G5 is supposed to be their ultra hydrophobic glass sealant but it doesn't last as long as G1.

So, here is my story. I have applied this product per instruction:
1. cleaned windshield with nanoskin clay sponge
2. mothers waterspots remover (just in case)
3. washed
4. 90% IPA
5. Gtechniq G4 Glass Nano Polish
6. The rest per instruction on a bottle, at autogeek and YT
My hands were falling off after this procedure. I have a glass all around my car even top. I just wanted to do it right initially and not to look back for 12 months.

A windshield (roof, and glass around) cured for 7 days before it touched a water. A car was parked outside when the rain drops touched the glass. I was amazed how cool water was beading (but not mesmerized, since I had a way better experience with other cheaper product). When first time I used the wipers to clean a windshield I got some smearing. I thought even of a tree sap on a windshield (but in December?). After a while it got much better. Well, driving in the rain was not a fun as it was with other brand. Despite, the rain drops were not sheeting, they were frozen to a windshield until I reached 60mph +. Even after the drops on the glass were like magnetized and slowly crawling leaving a trace, similar to a teenager who was waken up to school in the morning and was unwillingly dragging him/herself to the bathroom.
I was worried I did something wrong and emailed to their customer support. A reply was prompt, but mostly self protective, sort of :" I stand behind my product and bla bla bla..." no help!
We had a rough winter this year, a car was parked outside, lots of rain, snow, salt for 2 months in the raw. So, by the end of March I felt that G1 started getting much weaker, and in May it almost disappeared. Don't get me wrong it is there, but there is no use to it.
As I said, I had the better experience with a cheaper product very infamous but worked way way better and longer! I don't want to advertize which one, you can PM me for a name.

Thanks for the follow-up.

I have had G1 on my windshield since July 2013. It held up pretty well over the winter in Chicago. Water still sheets and gets blown off around 35 mph, but it's not as impressive as it was last summer/fall.

I put G1 on my tC (which has more glass than paint) and a year and a half later when I sold it the G1 was still going strong. Beading and sheeting just like day one.
I prepped the glass with DP Glass Restorer on an orange CCS pad on a GG6. Applied it just like the instructions and just so everyone knows, the residue remover they give you is not enough but it is actually only IPA so I used a lot of IPA to remove the residue. I think that is a very important step. Make sure you get all the residue off.
As far as wiper durability I can't really comment because I very rarely ever turned them on after the G1. The only time I had to was in very slow moving traffic (<30mph) but when I did I never got any chatter or streaking.
I put G1 on my GT-86 but it hasn't been very long and I've only driven it in the rain once so far (and I never turned on the wipers).
I chose the G1 because I hate wipers! All they do is scratch glass so I prefer not to use them. I had a S2000 that the previous owner did not take care of and the windshield had wiper trails so bad that when the sun hit it just right you couldn't see through it. That's when I decided no more wipers for me and the G1 took care of that for me.

OP, don't give up on it. Polish the glass real good then reapply, let it haze real well and use plenty of IPA to remove the residue. Then keep the glass clean.

I did notice that as my glass got dirty the water wouldn't sheet as well but a good cleaning and it was back to normal.

I just ordered G5 to test out. The videos of it look promising. I've been using flyby30 with good results so I'll compare it to that.
It's supposed to shed water faster than G1 but not be as durable which is fine with me.

Yes, a secondary product was not enough and trust me I read about it could be substituted with IPA as I did. Another thing, since to me scrutiny is not a problem I followed process to T. Also, before purchasing G1 I put on mental scale all available products on the US market, even nano (...guards, shields etc. Sorry guys turn words into a puzzle. I dont want the corp world do reviews for us) based ones. Funny, those products had no reveiews online whatsoever only the "unbelievable" videos. Some enthusiasts spend 1k annually no one bought one for 30 bucks to compare. As amature I also went for one half of the price and already tested product I thought I could trust. BTW, I noticed the G1 users crowd devides into 2 parts, lucky ones and not so much :)
