With the announce that LC was releasing a pad for large throw machines I could not wait to try them, but at the same time was skeptical on how they would compare to my favorite Rupes pads (Green & Yellow). I purchased each of the new Orbital pads (Blue, Orange, Red) and tested them thoroughly last week.

As a quick recap here are what LC claims (taken from Autogeek):

Lake Country HD Orbital Foam Pads are specially designed foam pads that were developed for long-stroke dual action polishers. With the increasing popularity of long-stroke (also referred to as large throw) dual action polishers, the market demanded a line of foam pads designed specifically for these types of machines. After months of strenuous research and development, Lake Country is proud to introduce the HD Orbital Foam Pads.

Lake Country HD Orbital Foam Pads feature a dual-density design. This unique design eliminates the concaving effect that other pads experience, allowing the pads to maintain optimum surface contact and extended usage on long-stroke machines, like the Rupes LHR 15 ES and LHR 21ES “Big Foot” Random Orbital Polishers. Lake Country HD Orbital Foam Pads will outlast and outperform any other foam pads on a long-stroke dual action polisher – guaranteed.

Blue Cutting HD Orbital Foam Pad
Firm, medium density foam for scratch and defect removal. Use this pad with polishes and swirl removers. It’s an all around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections.

Orange Polishing HD Orbital Foam Pad
Less dense foam formula for the application of cleaner waxes and light polishes. This pad has very light cutting power so it’s perfect for the removal of light defects and micro marring.

Red Finishing HD Orbital Foam Pad
Composition is firm enough to withstand added pressure during final finishing to remove buffer swirls. It has very little cut and will apply thin, even coats of waxes, sealants, and glazes, and ultra fine polishes.

Claims:

Lake Country HD Orbital Foam Pads feature an engineered bevel that prevents pad “rolling,” allowing the pad to stay flat on the surface. Keeping the pad flat on the surface is critical for pad rotation, because if the pad isn’t rotating, then it’s just vibrating on the surface instead of leveling it.

Lake Country HD Orbital Foam Pads feature several unique cooling features that enable them to outlast and outperform conventional foam pads:

Cool Running – Lake Country HD Orbital Foam Pads run 10% cooler on long-stroke machines

Cooling Chamber – This helps prevent the center of the pad from concaving

Perfectly Balanced – Makes the machine easier to control

Dual Density Design – Increases stability and allows improved control on curved panels

Foam Construction – Because the pad is composed of several materials in addition to foam,, there is less foam movement which minimizes haze and micro marring.

My thoughts: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM! These pads can take a serious beating, DO NOT SHRED LIKE THE RUPES PADS, and are extremely easy to clean out. They do run extremely cool and honestly I did not notice any heat coming from the pad when feeling it with my hand after doing a panel. They also perform much better on curved panels compared to the Rupes pads and others on the market. These are extremely well balanced and smooth to operate as advertised. I found that these pads really do everything they claim. The blue cutting also finishes extremely well. My only complaint is that I sure hope LC makes these in the 4" size for the 3" BP of the smaller Rupes Mini. These pads are now my go to's and I will be sticking with them on my Rupes 21 PERIOD. In fact I sold all my other pads I like them so much lol.

Here are some pictures from using them this week:

Nice review. I like the LC HD orange and blue too, but I still prefer the Rupes Blue and Yellow pad.

Now I understand why you smile all the time! I love your assistant!

Great review Caleb!! I have some HD orbital on hand but haven't been able to schedule a long detail due to conflicts with commitments I have providing Sports Medicine coverage for local highschool sports. You did get me excited about them so don't be surprise if I create a review to mirror yours!

Thanks Claude! I am confident that you will love these. The winning ticket for me is that these don't shed like the Rupes pads.

That was a very compelling review, thanks for taking the time!

:agree: Do you find that the LC HD pads tear easily on the edges, being that they are so thin?

Great Review, not only descriptive but also showing what they are capable for.

Just like you, my favorite Rupes pads are the Green and Yellow, but they tend to shed like you stated.

Your review just sold me on those ones, so you can ask AG for your 0.2% for each orbital pad they sell! ;)

Thanks,

Kind Regards.

Great review. I just picked up all three on a recent order. I can't wait to give them a try.

The edges are too thin and will tear; especially on the super soft red pad. In opinion, it's because the LC HD have more angled bevel. This makes the tip of edges very thin.

The Rupes pads have are a little bigger on the velcro side and a little small on the face. The Rupes also have a tiny beveled edge on the face side.

Both the LC and Rupes are great! I just love the Rupes Blue and Yellow more than anything out right now.

How many pads did you use? Do you recommend changing every panel or do these seem like you can do an entire car with one or two??

Thanks for the great review!

Even more, I'm glad that you liked them!

Thanks Dave! Please PLEASE make these for the Rupes Mini. I would be more than happy to test them for you lol :buffing:

I only used 2 pads on the car. For awhile I was only using 1 because they clean so easy.

These pads blow away any rupes pad. I've only used the 7"

Which pad did you use, on what machine, with what product? I really wanted the HD to blow away Rupes pads too.....it just didn't happen.
