As most of you know Leather Masters (LM) is the newest addition to the AG brand lineup. I’ve heard good things about LM from some of the better detailers out there, who have a lot of experience with it. I think it’s a welcome addition. Luckily for me, Max and Meghan were very thoughtful and sent me this great kit to test out. Thank you!

Setup, Method of Application and noted Observations:
I had a bit of a dilemma on getting hold of a car to use this on. Little did I know my buddy and his kids had spent the last few years preparing their SUV for this very situation. Perfect! Thursday I got to work on it. Unfortunately I forgot my camera and being about 30 minutes away from my house I had to use his cell phone for pictures. They came out ok but it was a real let down since the 50/50’s would have been really stunning with the proper camera.
I started by setting up a 4-way test on the drivers side rear seat to get a feel for the cleaning ability of the Leather Masters soft cleaner (LMSC). After taping off an area into 4 sections I cleaned the first section with LMSC. The nozzle of the soft cleaner bottle is built so you can control the release of product.
06-Release nozzle
I placed a few drops onto the sponge and wiped with light circular motions. LM also offers a couple other more aggressive cleaners so I was impressed that the layer of dirt was removed much more easily then I had anticipated. On each of the next 3 sections I used one of the following cleaners: DP-TIC, 1Z-CP, or 1Z-DPC. On this particular seat with this particular soiling I found the following. The LMSC cleaned the surface a little more easily then the DP-TIC. The LMSC was about equal with the 1Z-CP as far as ease and speed of cleaning but seemed to get the seat just a hair cleaner. (Not enough of a difference that you would notice in a normal situation). The 1Z-DPC seemed to be quite similar in its cleaning ability on these seats as well. After completing that test I removed the tape.

I continued to clean the entire vehicles seating including all sides of each seat and the door panels. I should have gotten some before/after pictures of the door panels but hadn’t originally planned on doing them. I’ll just say the difference was night and day. There was some kind of blue staining on the front passenger seat along with the regular buildup. All of this came off with ease.

The LM protectant is to be applied after the cleaned area is dry. It has the same control nozzle on the top of bottle and I was able to apply a few drops at a time to a clean side of sponge before applying it to one of the rear seats. On this vehicle I didn’t apply the protectant across the entire vehicle but I did use it enough to get a feel for it. It didn’t seem to add any gloss or a different look to the cleaned seats (That’s a good thing). The feel was just slightly different but not slippery. If I hadn’t felt them right next to each other I may not have noticed a difference.
My friend was obviously very happy with the look of his interior and his wife mentioned next time I need a test vehicle her Nissan Armada awaits…
As a secondary “quick test” the following day I tried some LMSC on another vehicle. Cleaning did not come as easy that time around. You can see a little more on that in the “Final Observations and Summary”.
I also pulled out the Leather Masters Ink Remover for a test. Since I didn’t have any ink stains I decided I would have to make some. I did 3 different tests. The first time around the ink was removed incredibly easy! The second time around I was videotaping but was interrupted. The 3rd time around I videotaped the whole thing. This time the ink didn’t come out quite as quickly but it was still very effective. I was a little handicapped trying to operate the camera at the same time. The previous night I had used some LM Protectant on one area of the seat. I scribbled some ink on that side. On the side that had not received the protectant I also scribbled some ink. The protected side did indeed release the ink a little easier. This stuff is a serious cleaner and even removed some of the pigment/dye. After cleaning with the ink remover you should go back over the area with the LMSC to remove any trace of the ink remover residue. The ink remover doesn’t seem to have any scent but it’s very strong and you would be wise to keep it off your skin and keep the area ventilated. After cleaning the ink stained area I found something very interesting. The cardboard hard leather was softer in that area then with any product I’ve used on it in the past.

Pros:
1.- Kit contains everything you need to care for either Aniline or Protected leather
2.- Antibacterial Water Based Cleaner
3.- Looks great and removes that shine from the dirt worn leather finish (See picture 20)
4.- Not much product is needed (It goes a long way if you’re careful)
5.- Easy application
6.- Dry to the touch and not at all slippery
7 – Ink remover is incredible!
Cons:
1.- I can’t come up with any
???:
1.- Don’t google Leather Masters…
Final Observations and Summary:
I was really surprised at how well the soft cleaner cleaned up the first vehicle. There are a couple more aggressive cleaners offered by Leather Masters so I didn’t expect this one to work as well as it did. When I did a quick test on the leather of one of our vehicles it didn’t clean as easily or thoroughly. I can only assume the dirt on our vehicles leather was ground in deeper and requires one of the more aggressive cleaners. Also the material type is a little different and may certainly have been a factor. If it says anything I definitely recommend the LM soft leather cleaner and will be using it on Sky in the future. If you deal with varying degrees and types of dirt buildup you may want to get a more aggressive cleaner as well.
The protection cream is a good product and doesn’t leave a slippery feeling to the leather. I really like it and recommend it as well. Personally I love my UIGP and prefer it for tactile feel and protection of finished leather.
The ink remover is incredible and has no trouble removing ink easily. Note that it is very strong and therefore you should test it on an inconspicuous area first. The ink remover is a whole new tool for my arsenal and I love it!
