Review: Leather Master Car Leather Protection & Cleaner Kit

Great Write up. I need to get my hand on this kit and try it out. I wonder how it works on red died leather

PS. Im gonna have to have you review my products in the near future.

Thanks Corey, another great review. I especially like that you used it on well worn dirty leather. So many product reviews seem to be done on cars/interiors/etc that look in great shape it's good to see reviews done on a vehicle that has had "average" care rather than the care most of us give to our own babies.

Excellent job, Cliff

ps: I went to the Ultima product based on your review and I love it....but if I need a deep cleaner, I'm going to try the Leather Master.

Nice review Corey. I was planning on picking leather rejuvenator for my bimmer and now you've peaked my interest.

Would you recommend Leather Master or leather rejuvenator?

Has anyone compared Leather Master and Leather Rejuvenator products? I was hoping to take advantage of Meghan's 20% off sale. Feed back please

Thank you Shawn!

I'm not sure that would be ok with AG for me to post your product review here.

Cliff, thank you so much for your words! I'm very happy to hear you are loving the Ultima. They make top notch, durable products no doubt! People don't really see how great the pricing is because it's hard to believe that it only takes that much per application.

Kurt, when you say Leather Rejuvenator do you mean http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/product-reviews/24577-review-leatherique.html?

They are 2 very different products with pros and cons. Are you dealing with protected "finished" leather?

Hey Corey,

I was referring to the leatherique products. Your Leatherique review thread seems to go both ways and I'm not sure if the Leather Masters or Rejuvenator Oil will restore the softness to the older leather better.

Yes, my 99 BMW seats seem to be "finished" and the leather needs some extra-TLC after nearly 170K miles. I have never been satisfied with any of the various leather cleaners and protection used over the years. The Leatherique website shows a very nice BMW seat project outcome, which has me somewhat excited.

You've used both, so what do you think?

I don't have your leather in front of me to touch... But if it's "finished leather and anywhere near as bad (hard) as the leather in my wifes car I will tell you now to lower your expectations as to hoping for a lot softer leather. Hopefully I'm wrong but better to have low expectations and be happy at the end then dissapointed. When I used the Leatherique I did get some initial softening and was happy but upon further treatment I didn't get what I'd hoped for in further softening.

The Leather Masters products I used and reviewed are not the product that they recomend to soften leather so I don't think you're looking for the cleaner or protectant I reviewed.

Unfortunately the product I'm going to mention next I haven't even tried myself so I'm not sure it will work or not. When Meghan told me she was going to send me some Leather Masters to review I did a little research. I called Leather Masters and started asking questions. I didn't know what I'd be getting from Meghan so I started asking general questions about the use of Leather Masters on finished leather. First I asked how well Leather Master products work on finished leather. I was told it works very well. I followed up by asking if it would soften the leather at all. I was told the Leather Masters "Vital" will soften leather. So I said, "But can it actually penetrate the the finished leather coating? Or do you mean it will soften the coating of the leather?" She said that I was correct in that it was actually the coating that would be softened. I am not sure if I was talking to someone who really knew her stuff or not but that was the info I was given. Heres the product I'm talking about. Leather Master Car Interior Leather Vital, leather restorer, Leather Vital conditioner

That said: (Assuming we are talking about finished leather)

For Cleaning: my recommendation would hinge on how dirty your leather is. I may use the Leatherique Pristine clean or just some Lexol cleaner with a good soft Tampico brush. Dependending on how stubborn the dirt is, the brush is the important part. I might not even use a leather cleaner to clean it with. I haven't used OPC diluted for leather but you could look into that.

For Softening: I would try the Leather Vital.

For Protection: I would go with Ultima Interior Guard Plus. It's going to be the most durable protectant and you will get a "cashmere" feel from it. Not that I've tried it on harder leather but I'm pretty sure it would give that same feeling at the surface that I get on Sky's leather. Ask any of the people who have gone ahead and tried it if they regret their decision. Maybe start a thread titled "Do you regret UIGP?" Then explain in the subject why you are asking. If the inital investment of UIGP is no good for you then the Leather Masters Protectant will be fine.

Kurt, your PM reminded me about the Leatherique process. Been awhile since I used it. You are correct and my info in the post above about cleaning with Pristine clean isn't right. If I was cleaning with Leatherique I would use the rejuv oil first like you mentioned.

I think that I will give the Leatherique a try. It is supposed to absorb into the leather and push out soil and dirt. If it works 1/2 as well as the BMW seat example on their website, I should be happy. :xyxthumbs:

Man, they forgot to send you the Vital. That absolutely a key part to the LM process. and for the seats in your video would have been necessary imo.

I think your opinion would be even better had you used it. thoughts of other products would have all but vanished imo.

The product descriptions are weird, but the Vital is bascially there leather conditioner in a nutshell. Without it, you are just basically cleaning the seats and sealing them.

Your 50/50 shots are not as bad as you say--I think they really show what it can do. I am also impressed by the ink remover. Hopefully I never need to use it, but I am certainly going to pick up some of that. I see you mentioned you haven't used it in awhile, but how did you find the cleaner compares to Pristine Clean?

By the way, it is interesting that you used 1Z CP (assuming Premium version) to clean leather seats since it is marketed as a plastic cleaner. I find it does a great and quick job of cleaning my dashboard, navigation screens, etc., but I never even considered using it for seats. Next time I do an interior cleaning I will give it a try.

I enjoy reading your reviews, and they almost always give me something to take away and think about. Keep up the good work! :dblthumb2:

Wow, 2 years late on my reply buddy!
