Hello my fellow Autogeeks! I am gonna give it a shot at my first review so lets try and be nice!
Well, I am fairly new to detailing and currently have many many products/tools that I have acquired over this short period of time! I am still currently in the process of figuring out which products, in combination with which tools, work best for me and my applications. Not long ago I bit the bullet and purchased a liter of Menzerna Fast Gloss Compound to try out and let me tell you I have been thoroughly impressed! I have only had experience with M105 and Megs UC prior to using FG400 so this is what I will be comparing it to! Here we go:
Menzerna Fast Gloss Compound aka FG400
PROS:
- Long work time
- Very little (if any) dusting
- Fast cut
- LSP ready (Judging by my first test on a light colored vehicle)
CONS:
- Price!
On to the test subject! It is a 2007 Subaru Impreza in Crystal Grey Metallic. My brother owns this car and it was vandalized by his EX girlfriend! Apparently she was upset that he wouldn't drive her to a party so she went outside and carved a rather kind name into his hood with her key! When he found what had happened to his hood, he got what looks to be steel wool, and began to scrape the key marks in hopes that they would be removed!
Well, he has been driving around like this for awhile, and I finally had some spare time so I figured this couldn't be a better time to try out my new compound! On to the pics...
Damage Photos:
Fluorescent light reflection between the "U" and "T"
"S" bend
Top of "U" next to "L"
Random scratching from whatever he used lol
The car was clayed using Mothers Clay Kit then IPA wipedown.
1 Spritz of Pad Condition was used for priming
Product applied to pad using DP bottle! Love these little guys btw!
Speed set on 5 using the Flex 3401
Next the area was taped off and product was spread
I used 6 Heavy passes and 2 light passes!
Product was then wiped of and area was inspected! Most of the area looked like this!
Middle of the "T"
Middle of the "L"
Bottom of "U"
"U" slightly visible still
"S" pretty much gone
Not Bad!
From this:
To This, in one easy step!:
Conclusion:
Keep in mind, I wasn't expecting a hug turn-around on this area of the hood, nor was I going for 100% correction. I mainly wanted to test the ability of the product and my hopes were that it would make this vulgar word less noticeable lol... It delivered. This entire area was 125 micron +/- so I didn't continue compounding after I saw how much the apearance had improved after this test! My bro was more than happy and so was I!
Like I said, I am very impressed with how well this compound cut and finished out in comparison to M105. IMO, M105 cut quicker but the amount of dust and haze that I got after working M105, made me start looking for another product! I definitely found THE product, FG400! I am so happy with my results and the ease of use! These scratches were very bad and I honestly didn't expect too much out of this compound! Being that it is a DAT compound and all, I figured it would do well but I was shocked to see these results! Considering his car is such a light color, I believe it could have aided in the "look" of it's finishing ability. Also, a camera phone only does so much in capturing the actual look and damage on such a light color. Taking that into consideration, I will try and see how things turn out on darker colored cars and will keep you all updated! The only downside to this compound that I see is its price! I'm sure many aren't ready to fork over $50 for a Liter of this stuff, but I have to say i'm glad that I did! Most likely in the near future I will be purchasing a gallon to save some $$! No doubt about it, I will most definitely make this a staple in my cabinet for a quick, easy to use, and sweet finishing compound! I can't wait to use this stuff in door cups by hand!
I hope you all enjoyed! :dblthumb2:
