Review: Optimum Car Wash Concentrate

Thank you Chad! I think you'll really like it :dblthumb2:

Corey - I had a chance to try Optimum Car Wash Concentrate last night, and I loved the stuff. It did a really nice job cleaning and tackled some tough water spots without any problem. The smell was very pleasant, and the lubricity was very good.

I used the recommended dilution of 1oz per gallon (since I have very hard water), which resulted in using quite a bit more soap that I normally do. I will give it a few more tries and if I like it, get the gallon to try and get the cost down.

It did make my skin a bit itchy, but I think that may be a testament to the cleaning power (that and I have sensitive skin). I'll keep using it and report back if it was a one time thing.

Thanks Bill for your valuable input!!

I'm sorry to hear of the itchy skin. Have you ever had that before with a wash? Maybe allergic to something in it? Blueberry allergy? j/k :)

Please let me know what happens next time you use it if you get itchy again.

I think I have noticed it as well but also have felt it with PB SSS.

Interesting find, Bill. I find that Ultima shampoo dries my skin. I guess each persons body chemistry reacts differently to different products and the chemicals in them.

Corey, Sky Baby looks like a jewel. Great review again.

Over the past couple of years I found that I prefer Optimum Car Wash to Ultima, Duragloss, Megs Gold Class, Megs Mirror Glaze, OG Blue 88 and a few other car washes. I seem to be an Optimum fan overall, but I still use a lot of different manufacturers products. 1/2 oz Optimum car wash/gallon is fine when I make up car wash with soft water.

I have yet to try DP, Pinnacle, Wolfgang, P21 and Sonax car washes. I was thinking about the DP BOGO and have it in my cart. Should I stick with Optimum or try the DP?

I've recently stayed within the Optimum family....Applied Opti Coat a few months ago...now I switched to Optimum Car wash, followed by Optimum Quick Detailer and Gloss Enhancer...and I'm speechless as to how incredibly easy it is to maintain my car now...and how incredible it looks. The gloss and depth are off the charts. The combination of the 3 Optimum products is absolutely a winner for me. :xyxthumbs:

DR G really knows car finishes, and it shows in the products his team develops.

Thanks a bunch Kurt!! I have tried many soaps at this point but I have not used the DP. I do have a sample but haven't had the chance. Have used pinnacle and WG. The WG is my favorite smelling but the smell isn't s strong as optimum so I choose optimum over it in that category as well as the other categories. Lubrication, cleaning, etc. Sorry I can't help more on the DP opinion buddy. :(

I agree

Not trying to steal the thread.

Old Tiger. What say'th you regarding the DP car wash. Earlier in the year you were the Ultima fan. While the Ultima is very nice, I prefer the smell and something else about the Optimum car wash. I'm an Optimum fan but I always listen to you, Cee Dog and a few others to balance my opinions.

Otherwise, Optimum goes into the cart and the DP is kicked to the side of the road. Well maybe I will order a sample instead but I really want to try the DP tire dressing.

Jim, maybe that's the "other" that I referred to. I don't like the smell and it seemed "strong." The smell reminds me of a strong detergent but don't get me wrong, it does clean well.

Whoa!! The last skybaby pic is epic!!!

Why not get both and do a side by side review. I have used plenty of soaps and in the end they all are usually good enough. It gets down to how much you like a scent, suds, richness feeling (pseudo lubricity, not sure that translates to anything), mid-point cost, and added gloss.

I like Optimum because it is smells nice, seems to clean well, holds up suds even doing wheels (should indicate amount of cleaning), not intended to leave added gloss, and cost effective at 0.5 oz per gallon. I use other soaps regularly as well but I am not into more expensive soaps (cost per 3 gallons wash).

How can I compare to Corey's reviews? He's the man! :props:

You're right. Most of these car washes work pretty well but there can be subtle differences. I like Optimum for the same reasons. I seem to get a certain sparkle with Optimum.

With Duragloss, I got a more of a coated, glow look which worked really well with my wife's champagne beige BMW wagon. I didn't like it as well with our alpine white 528iT which really needs a crystal clean look IMO.

I guess that I can pick up some of the DP and let my son use it if I don't really like it. Thanks for the push.

Dear Corey -

I tried out OCW again tonight, cleaning off the wife's car after 2,000 miles of driving, and hitting so many bugs the front of the car was mostly yellow.

I must say OCW does indeed dry my skin out, but holy cow is it powerful stuff!!! Bugs and tar just slide off. I have stopped using a dedicated wheel cleaner, and just some OCW in a bucket.

Lastly, and what inspired me to post tonight ... I was cleaning up, coiling the hoses and rinsing the buckets when I saw on my driveway piles of thick suds. I have not experienced this sort of behavior with any other car wash I have used.

In short, thank you for introducing me to OCW and convincing me to try it out.

Thank you for all the added input Keith! Your opinions and insight are always appreciated. Thanks for the compliment to buddy. You are too kind.
