We had the pleasure of testing another product from the Son1x Wax Waxatory. This time around it was something special it was Son1c Wax Aut1sm. This wax was developed by Drew and Son1c Wax with help of his brother Brad who was diagnosed with Autism. Brad was very involved of the development of this wax, from the color, to the scent he was a part of it all. If purchased, 10% of the proceeds with be donated directly to the Autism Speaks Foundation.

Needless to say we were very exited to be on board with this project for what it stood for, not to mention we have been blown away by the other waxes the Son1c Wax Waxatory produces.

So how about the review?

Scent:

I put this first because it is absolutely the best smelling wax, or any detailing product for that matter, that I have ever used. It is fruity but not overbearing and have had tons of clients notice it.

Ease of Use:

As it seems to be the norm with Son1c Wax, this wax was extremely easy to use. Spreads on smooth without being “grabby” at all and is removed effortlessly. This means less effort for you and less opportunity to mar the finish.

Water Repellency:

Again, something that seems to be the norm with Son1x Wax in that their waxes bead/sheet water amazingly. Much better than most waxes we have tried and in close competition with coatings.

Durability:

On par with the standard of waxes of a few months. Not meant to last forever and with the ease of use and the delicious scent you will enjoy re-applying.

Pros:

Cons:

Yeah right.

Conclusion:

Son1c Wax Aut1sm is absolutely amazing. For its capabilities as a product, but also the fact that Brad was involved in the development of the wax and that it benefits charity. We would like to thank Drew and Brad for the making this wax and allowing us to test and review it for them.

How does a "Wax" both "bead and sheet" water, amazingly, during a: water-on-the-paint-event?

Drew must have hit upon a magic formula that affects
surface tension in a "dual fashion"; or you have
secreted away: A special water-testing protocol.


Note:
I own and have used Drew's Carnaubavore Wax. I have witnessed it bead water, in an appropriate manner, when it's first applied...and continue to bead water until it no longer provided a sufficient amount of surface tension: wherein the cohesion of water molecules were sorely affected---affected to the point of nearing hydrophilic behavior.

Out of curiosity:
Is that what you mean by saying a Wax being able
to provide both water-beading and water-sheeting?

I always have to read your posts 3-4 times.

I believe all hydrophobic coatings or products have the ability to bead as well as sheet, and this depends upon the mass of water and the angle of the panel. Simply put, a flat horizontal panel with the most hydrophobic coating will simply bead water if low volume water comes in contact with it when it is applied as a mist.

When larger volumes of water are applied, since the surface is hydrophobic, van der Waals forces will cause attraction of the water molecules, which will form hydrogen bonds causing larger accumulations of water, forming larger beads or collections. Simply add an angle to that panel and the mass of the larger collections will cause the entire collection to roll or sheet off due gravity.

Even a great hydrophobic panel will bead if the surface tension is capable of overcoming gravity (small droplet mass).

(Just thinking loud)...

From now on: Should I just disregard threads/posts
wherein people say they are tired of the damaging affects
that water-beading is causing to their vehicles' paint...wherein
the same people proceed to ask of the forum members their recommendations for any LSPs that will "sheet" water?

I would not presume to know when to tell you when you should post. :)

I think it's a mixed bag. On the surfaces that bead, if the water dries out, I think it has the potential to leave spots on the coating. Since waxers and sealers are probably applying/reapplying more frequently than coaters, they are (perhaps) seeing less of the long-term consequences of neglected water beads when compared to those who have coatings.

But, what's a LSP for if not a sacrificial layer?
