Hello everyone. :) I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings with you all after having used the new Edge Shmitt wash mitt. :) Aaron very graciously sent me one to try out and I can say I am very excited about this new product. I just happened to be detailing a black VW bug when I got the shmitt so I could think of no better color to test the shmitt out on. :)

The size is large which is great because you can cover alot of area and cut down your wash time. The foam is also the softest I've ever felt. I really like how the bug scrubber is on the flip side. The car that I was working on had alot of bird poo and other nasty things stuck on it and I wound up using the scrubbing side quite a bit. It was very convenient to be able to twist it to the other side while it was on my hand, scrub and then twist it back and keep going. The fit is nice and snug, but not tight and there is no fear of it slipping off your hand.

The one thing that really impressed me the most about the Shmitt is how much water it saves. I've always used sheepskin mitts to wash with before and on my SUV I've always needed two full gallon sized buckets of wash water to get my car done even with using the foam gun. With the Shmitt I noticed that I still had alot of wash water left over afterwards. On the VW bug I only needed one bucket of wash water and it lasted me the entire wash and I still had half of it left over afterwards. With the sheepskins it soaks up alot of water and soap, but then it drips all over the ground on your way from the wash bucket to the car's paint. With the Shmitt, it soaks up the wash water and soap, but it doesn't drip on the ground, and when you begin to wash it's all there lots of soap and water to lubricate the surface. I had no idea of just how much wash water I was wasting with my sheepskins until I used the Shmitt. High quality car wash soaps are not cheap and had I never used the Shmitt I would have never realized how much product was ending up on the ground wasted. I can see how this wash mitt will save me lots of money in car wash over the years versus the sheepskins. My initial experiences with the Shmitt had me very excited, but all of this is nothing if the Shmitt were not safe on the paint. The black car I was working on was swirl city so i waited until after polishing to reserve my final judgements on the Shmitt. I polished and have washed the car a few times since polishing and I can say that I saw no new swirls from the Shmitt. I scrutinzed the surface before and after and there was nothing there! :D I was very very excited about this but I had to give it yet another test to be sure. My SUV has very soft paint and swirls if you look at it wrong, the black car passed the swirl test, but would my SUV pass as well? I used the Shmitt on my car and I am happy to say that I only needed one bucket of wash water to do the entire SUV and after I dried her off I scrutinzed the surface. No swirls to be seen anywhere!

My final thoughts on the Shmitt are that this is an excellent product. I can truly see this wash mitt making sheepskins obsolete. I have used it about 10 times now and it is exactly the same softness and appearance as it was the day it came in the mail. It removes the dirt safely and quickly from the paint. The scrubber is conveniently located for right when you need it. It fits snuggly (even on a woman's hand) and doesn't slip. It does not introduce new swirls and it saves water and wash soap. I'm sure many professional detailers will benefit in cost savings with the Shmitt. The Shmitt excelled in all of the tests I put it through. There is nothing negative that I can say about and I highly recommend it.

Thank you Aaron for sending me the Shmitt and thank you to everybody else for taking the time to read my review. :)

Great review Jen!! I have one question, do you see any benefits in using more than one schmitt per wash? I know people use lots of mitts (Neo and his 4 mitts or something crazy like that), so do you think one Schmitt would be good enough or go for more?

I could see the benefit of having two for time saving purposes. I have a SUV and so I usually like to have one wash bucket and wash mitt for each side of the car to save time spent going to the rinse bucket to wash the mitt out. I could see the beneifit of having two in that circumstance, but it's really not necessary. The mitt washes clean very easily in just a few seconds and it is ready to go again.

Im having a hard time getting use to its size. Wonder if it would fit in most smaller buckets also ??? The foam is super soft , and seems to hold the soap rather well.

I like the bigger size. I could cover more area more quickly which is a big plus for the roof of my SUV. ;) I don't know about smaller buckets, but I use a gallon sized one and it fit fine in there.

Excellent review. You paint a good picture.
Same results as with mine.

Justin,
Did you ever get to test the black wheel ShMiTT yet?

I'm putting it together this week Aaron. I used it also for some serious bug removal......did not scratch ANYTHING!

can I have a teaser? I assume that means you liked it?

The review you and Justin done is outstanding. This will be in my next order. This is what I'm looking for. Here is what you wrote: The one thing that really impressed me the most about the Shmitt is how much water it saves. That is what I’m looking for in a mitt. Great work Jen:applause:

Its amazing, because this is not even one of our selling points that we discovered when creating the product!! It seems that people that are using the ShMiTT are actually discovering more benefits than even the Manufacturer knew about!! We are very excited about this new product and really think it will change the way you wash you car, boat, truck, and many other items for the better!

Thanks for all the support!

Jen,

If you are using a foam gun how is the Schmitt holding soap from the bucket to the car? Are you using a soap bucket and a foam gun?

The lack of nap is the biggest drawback of a mf mitt or sponge. Everyone prefers the nap on chenille or sheepskin for its ability to lift the grit and hold it away from the paint surface.

Since the mitt is foam and therefore has no nap...how do you prevent it from dragging grit across the paint?

Reddwarf, I always use a wash bucket and the foam gun even with sheepskins. I get the mitt all wet and soapy in the wash bucket and then spray the foam gun while washing for extra soap and lubricity, but with the Shmitt, there was plenty of soap and water in the mitt.

Emaxxman, I am not sure how it works, but the it doesn't scratch. Believe me I scrutinized the surface looking for scratches and couldn't find them. It somehow traps the dirt without dragging it across the paint.

This Mitt is made from very very soft polyester urethane foam. It's the waffle texture that allows the dirt to get knocked off by the tips and then move into the channels where it can drain out of the mitt. The foam is the softest type of foam known and will never scratch a surface. In fact it is made from our highest quality ultra fine high speed finishing foam that is made to last at 2000+ RPMs on a buffer. By hand not only will it not scratch, but it will outlast any hairy wash mitt which will leave tufts of hair ripped out on the wipers and lettering. Our Foam ShMiTT is also always cushioning and does not impart direct pressure on the paint the way the hairy mitts do once they become wet and the hairs all lay down. You also will love to put your hand into this Mitt because it does not feel like a wet moldy bag on your hand. The ShMiTT fits a hand like a glove and gives you total control to wash every crack and corner since it has an Edge all the way around. I think many of the nay sayers will be surprised to hear the reviews as they come in.

Got my scmitt mitts today, hopefully the rain will stop by tomorrow so I can try it out. If not I have to wait until next week because of all this stupid overtime I'm working.

Just to weigh in with my own "ShMitt" experience . . .

. . . I received a white/yellow Edge ShMitt this week from a friend & finally got to give it a test run today. Started about 9:30 this morning, temperature was about 75 degrees & I used two buckets & my Foam Gun filled with DP's Extreme Foam shampoo.

My CR-V was not overly dirty, but it had been through a few rain showers & some blowing dust. A quick rinse with clear water dislodged most of the dirt, then I hit it with the foam. Once it was covered with suds, I put the gun down, donned the ShMitt & the fun began . . . the ShMitt seemed to "increase" the suds & it was very effective at lifting any dirt that remained after the initial rinse & foaming.

Then it got interesting . . . when I started rinsing, the suds seemed to "stick" to the paint in the same pattern as I had swiped with the ShMitt - at a quick glance, it looked like I'd inflicted some really horrid scratches on my paint & I was not a happy gal!! But as I continued to rinse, the "scratches" turned out to just be suds that were more resistant to the water stream.

Has anybody else noticed this phenomenon? Or have any explanations??

When I was done, the ShMitt was easy to rinse out & is now inverted over my Mother's QD bottle drying.:)

Next order I'll have some Shmitts included:D , especially on our suv's doesn't matter if I use sheepskin or chenille, their always tearing or catching on stuff like my V8 emblems. And both always seem to leave some hairs afterwards.

I have had this "sticking" effect also, but was using my sheepskin mit, I was also using DP soap. I was wondering if maybe there was too much soap, but I think I'm pretty close to using only 2 ounces.

I use the DP soap too, but I haven't experienced any soap sticking phenomenon with the shmitt. I wonder if humidity plays a factor??
