Review: Various Microfiber Towels

Great review, not often we see MF towel reviews in detail

+1 on the CG Gray Matter. I like using it, but it "feels" like it's wearing on me little by little every time I use it.

Many thanks!

How long have you had the towel? I've found around 5-6 months of use was when the 2 I had started to die. Thankfully the other 2 are still strong, who the heck knows. :nomore:

How do you remove excess water from the gray matter towels while using them? Do you wring them out in a twisting fashion, or shake and or pop them to get water out?

To be honest. I've never wrung them out. I keep multiples and just go to a new one when one gets completely soaked.

I've used it for a month and use it on 2 cars; have had one large and one small string come loose. I like the towel in general tho!

I only have one (my other drying towel is an Absorber). I fold it up 3 or 4 times (into 1/8's or 1/16's) and then wring it out using light-moderate to moderate strength.

Are you machine washing them in a machine with a center agitator?
Isn't the Absorber the synthetic chamois? The one that's hard as a rock when dry?

I machine wash all my towels in a HE washer with Blackfire detergent.

Well, I guess the MF and border just aren't a good match then. Keep an eye on the borders/edging before and after washing and see if you notice it getting worse. Might try selecting a lower spin cycle speed.

Yehah I should play with the speed settings, I usually use the "delicates" setting, I think that might be my lowest, Im not too sure. I will try some stuff out though so thanks, can't hurt at least!

I am too paranoid to use the same towel for drying until it is so wet that it needs to be wrung out.

I just go to a fresh towel.

I'm afraid that, for me, there is too much chance of scratching my black paint, which I thought was hard. I am starting to think it is both soft and thin as I sanded thru the clear doing a chip repair on one of the vertical panels and seem to get micro marring no matter how gentle I am when drying with multiple Cobra Guzzlers and Optimum Quick Detailer/Gloss Enhancer.

As soon as I have a nice garage, I am buying a MasterBlaster and a CR Spotless, so I don't have to touch it at all while drying.

I machine wash towels in washing machine with a center agitator. The Absorber is the synthetic towel, and yes you need to always keep it damp--even when storing.

I have recently added a nice new towel to my collection, will add to this soon!

The center agitator is likely the culprit for most of the damage occurring to microfibers with stitched on edging.
I wouldn't consider the Absorber a towel. More like a sponge clothe. If used to blot water of a surface it is probably fairly safe and suitable for most finishes. But, considering it wont absorb dirt very well, I would hesitate using it on scratch sensitive finishes, like clear coat. Many people don't follow the instructions of storing the Absorber moist, let alone use it to dry their vehicles properly.

I am having trouble finding several of these towels.
Are they still available? Could someone post links to them?

Some towels are AG brand. Some are others like CG. I list where they all come from in the review. :)
