Reviewed: Optimum G-P-S

Very nice review!

Thank you for taking the time to put together this very informational, well put together review. Not to mention the pictures are great too.

WOW, what a nicely done review! I like the clarity of your documentation and the photos as a visual. Great before and after shots and I have to say the car looks stunning!!

Optimum makes some great products!!

Gorgeous Job!! :props:

Thanks for all the great comments guys! I really tried to knock this one out of the park because in all honesty, I was floored by how well this product worked, how easy it was to use and how good it made the car look.

I also figured it was a small price to pay to return something back to a community that has given me so much.

Happy Holidays to all and again, many thanks!

Any thoughts of using compressed air to fluff up the fibers after every panel as meguiars suggests with their mf?

Thanks for the reminder on this, I too have heard about doing this and should look into it for next time. I keep a pancake compressor in the garage with an air hose on a reel so if nothing else, I have all the pieces and parts in place.

I also need to pick up a pad cleaning brush, as once I gummed up the first pad, & switched to my second, I would have had no other choice than to clean them completely in order to keep polishing.

Thanks for your input!

Great review. I really enjoyed reading this and you photos were just stellar. I especially liked the 50/50 photo showing that some swirls remained but only the deeper ones as it gives a great visual of what the product is or isn't capable of. Once again great review and thanks for posting.:props:

Thanks and agreed wholeheartedly! I showed the review to a friend of mine at work and all he kept saying was "OMG!, all those swirls on a new car?!", and he knows they were preinstalled because he saw the car they day I picked it up from the dealership.

I tried to convey before/during/after as best as possible and it was without a doubt the hardest part of the job. I think I took a couple of years of lifespan away from the autofocus mech. on my Canon and I probably took about 70 pictures before settling on the ones I posted, but in the end it was well worth it. :-)

I debated as to whether or not to show the picture/s with the swirls remaining because you rarely see them around here, but at the same time wanted to convey the reality that you picked up on, namely that this wasn't going to remove every swirl, scratch and RID nor replace every item in the arsenal.

Thanks for the reassurance and the other kind words!

Thanks Bobby! She's my first new car in a couple of years, and in the last color I wanted, but I think I am up for the challenge!

Can't wait for spring already....:buffing:

Happy Holidays!

Did you use gps on the whole vehicle? how long did it take you?

I just pickup a gallon of gps and hyper polish spray and some mf polishing pads, I am very excited now.

Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to finish the whole car due to the holidays, but am looking forward to grabbing the first nice warm day I get and doing so. Will try to post some follow-up pics once completed.

Great Review! Would you work an entire panel with this at one time or a 2x2 section like a conventional polish/compound? Also, I have orange, white and green ccs pads and really don't want to buy any of the microfiber pads at this time. I was wondering if you had any opinion on which pad I should use with this product?

Thanks,
Drew

Thanks!

At first, I would try keeping the work area on the small side, giving the abrasives time to do their thing and you time to get a feel for the product. Once you establish a comfort factor, G-P-S does have a long working time so as you become more used to it, you may see yourself expanding your work area a bit.

The only thing I would try to avoid early-on is overloading the pad, as if you are not used to the sprayer, you may find yourself overdoing it a bit.

As for the pads, I think the white ccs should be fine, so long as you're only trying to do a mild swirl removal and not a major correction. I am going to try this combo out as well, as I would like to see the difference between the microfiber pads and the foams, both in terms of correction strength and in how they finish out.

Please let me know what you think, once you give it a try!

Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to decide between the GPS and the XMT360 right now!

I think I'm going GPS for some touch-ups on my parents cars this spring!
Thanks for all the help!
