Right steps?

Looking to help my dad restore some shine and fix some imperfections on his Black Mercedes Benz C43 AMG...

Wash - Waterless Turtle Wax Wash
Clay - Speedy Prep towel, Fine.
Compound - m105
Polish - m205
Glaze - CG BlackLight
Seal - CG V7
Wax - CG Butter wet wax...

I have all the stuff except the m105 and m205... would these be good choices? I am applying everything using CG hexpads and by hand.

Mercedes clear is generally pretty hard so correcting by hand will be very difficult. Other than M105 the rest of the steps are fine. Depending on the condition I'd recommend using an AIO after claying the car. If you still had energy left hit it with a coat of wax.

You really need a polisher.
 
Wont be using a polisher this time. Maybe at some point, my dad is just looking to get a lil shine.

So would you suggest not doing the m105? I have CF nano n3 which has some abrasives in it... should i skip the m105 completly?
 
Will the V7 be durable enough to serve as the sealant layer? I envisioned the V7 as more of a maintenance product, not the protectant layer for the paint.
 
V7 is not really a sealant. It's a super QD. You're better off going Blacklight then your wax. Use V7 as a QD or after washing to amp up your shine.

Also, if you're doing m105 and m205 to the entire car by hand, good luck with that. You're better off holding back correcting for now and using a paint cleaner to deep clean the paint instead, then blacklight, then wax.

+1 Good point.

I've never been successful in correcting by hand. I've tried on both Japanese and European cars and never had any real results until I brought in power tools.

If you are set on going by hand, you might be better served by the Meguiars Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish. It's my understanding they may be more hand-applied friendly versus the 105/205 which are designed for machine use. I used UC/UP with a machine and was VERY happy with the results.

Yes skip M105 by hand if you need to do some spot compounding try Meg's Ultimate Compound.

Yea not really a true sealant but great for maintence.

+1 Blacklight and wax would be my recommendation as well assuming those are the products you have already.
 
ok then! i wanted to buy stuff! oh well thanks for the tips and ill post some pics!... Does the autogeek store sell to the public via walk in? Im going to be passing it on my way down to work on this car and wouldnt mind stopping in and buying the sonax and wheel cleaner and peeping around...

Is polish and glaze the same thing?

Generally no. Polish is about correcting imperfections and brining a shine to the paint. Glaze is more about enhancing the shine for a short term benefit. Products these days are crossing boundaries like Blacklight a polish/glaze. Wax is about providing protection.

There's been instances in the past where members have placed an order over the phone, you need to give them at least 30-60 minutes heads up, but they'll prepare your order and give you a little tour of the facility and what-not. As far as being able to browse their product selection, I can't say either way, that'd be cool if you could though.

Before you jump in head first and start compounding this Mercedes-Benz AMG do two things,

Check the paint code on the driver's door to find out if this AMG has Ceramiclear paint.

If it does, read my article here before starting with a compound.


Ceramiclear Paints - Be Careful


All of us need to be very careful when working on any car with a Ceramiclear finish.

Also, ANYTIME someone brings you a car with a Ceramiclear finish because they are having problems correcting the paint, do some research before bringing out your buffer, make sure you're not taking over someone else's headache.


Just to note, I've had great luck using nothing more aggressive than Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover to buff out Ceramiclear paints. If the defects are deeper than what Wolfgang Swirl Remover can remove then I don't want to remove them, especially if the car in question is a daily driver.
