Rim protection from brake dust

Another nod for Sonax Rim Shield. Tried it based on an earlier recommendation from custmsprty. After applying Rim Shield I can hose off 95% of the the brake dust. Most interestingly, the dust collects differently on the wheels after applying Rim Shield- it seems to settle on the ledge outside the barrel where the spokes are. Pretty amazing visual difference after using it. I'll try to get a pic posted.

Regarding overspray, it hasn't been a problem. Aim it where you want it to go. Of course I get overspray on the tires. I just wipe them down with a rinseless wash towel after it dries and have never noticed it. It also flashes quickly. For areas I can't get to easily, I'll apply from the back side of the wheel by reaching behind. If you're really picky, after an hour rotate the tire 90 degrees and get any spots you missed due to caliper being in the way.

Regarding Pinnacle coating, I used it previously and it's good. Rim shield is better at keeping brake dust off and far easier to apply. Of course, it doesn't last as long. But easy to re-apply as needed. I'm probably applying every 4-5 months.

I simply use Collinite 845 and the dust wipes off after a quick spray. My front wheels get pretty dirty after just a few days of normal driving so I clean them every week. I get good protection for a full season (April through October) and then put on a new coating (usually 2-3 layers) over the winter. I don't bother protecting my winter wheels since they're beaters curbed beyond any hope of looking good.
