rinseless wash supplies

gregory1420,

If you really want to keep it as basic as possible, start with any rinseless product and a dozen towels and go from there. Doesn't have to be fancy towels either, your basic 300gsm would do fine. You'd then experiment with single; as a substitute for mitt, or multiple (Garry Dean method). You could always branch out and try other washing materials later as you get the hang of things.

The sponge, IMO, is 50/50. There is no middle ground; you'd either love it or hate it.

Oh, and why a dozen? Because you're going to need more than six microfibers, I'm betting on it... lol

You are more than welcome to try. The BRS brings up the issue of another member who had issues using the BRS with D114. N-914 has a similar behavior as D114.

I was going to post this.

Looks like once ONR sets in, it simply doesn't let go. Before you know it it's bricks through windows and boiling rabbits.

So we've gone beyond whether a rinseless wash leaves something behind, to whether it works with different kinds of wash media. Maybe they can come out with specific versions of N-914, one for sponges, one for chenille mitts, one for MF mitts, and one for MF towels. Maybe that's the secret behind the name, maybe there are going to be 914 versions, maybe you'll be able to get one for the specific model and year of your car.

Or possibly we have a lot of members with a lot of different experience levels, a lot of different (ambient/dirt) conditions, and a lot of preconceived notions, so maybe we can't take everything at face value and need to apply a little common sense.

thanks noodle.. I already got 3 buckets one just for wheels.. I think I will try the 914 with some towels I have...

As I stated feel free to experiment. Let's get this thread back on topic.

For the op what has worked for me is the big red sponge with ONR and a wash mitt/microfiber towels for N-914.

I'm thinking it's the nature of sponge; doesn't rinse off like a rag. Like the kitchen sponge - no matter how well you squeeze out the sucker, there's always some leftover residue.

That characteristic plus ONR's reaction to said rinseless and...boom...frothy party.

And in this case the OP is starting out with N-914...so no ONR in the sponge--or does Optimum pre-soak the BRS in ONR for you?

No wonder it's $19 plus... It comes pre-treated with ONR.

It's like Twinkies for your ride. Yummy treat in the middle. They thought of everything!

OK, but seriously, I thought it was a caution regarding alternating between chems, not virgin (teehee) wash material.

We can go around this all day but I'll let you try it and you can report back as I won't be.

I won't be buying a BRS...I'll stick with the 14 other kinds of sponges (including the OPT blue waffle, Pro-Line, QEP etc.) and MF wash sponges, chenille sponges, mitts, pads, towels etc. that I rotate through with the 7 or something different kinds of rinseless that I rotate through...and never had certain media that didn't work with certain washes.

Same here. Never had an issue switching solutions with any of the media until I saw that thread. I was going to do an experiment, but dunno where that sponge went (there goes $25).

I was just looking at that thread where the guy got all the suds with ONR/D114, and it had nothing to do with the wash media, it had to do with the two products together, and as you said, apparently residue from one in the wash media getting mixed with the other (he ultimately did an experiment with a new grout sponge, washed with D114, then mixed ONR into the bucket).

And while we're on the subject, a chemist's take on "leaving nothing behind":

Oh yes, that thread. Always enjoy Mr. PiPUK's take on products.

btw, your inbox is full, sir. lol

I have 3 rinseless wash 5 gallon buckets sealed

1. Uber rinseless
2. Megs D114 - once I run out it will be mckees 914
3. Ech20

I bought a TON of wash mitts so I have one mitt per panel but sometimes do the Gary Dean method with MF rags.

Each bucket is for a specific purpose but having all 3 on hand is handy and they all go along ways.

Ah, I understand.

I was just checking to see if you would like some D114 & N-914 samples. IIRC, you haven't had the chance to experiment with 'nothing left behind' products.

Thank you for the offer, I still have most of a quart of D114, I never found it to be excitingly different than any other rinseless, other than that fact (like many others) it doesn't stain the media like ONR. Perhaps I am less discriminating than you folks. Perhaps when I (imminently) finish my v.2 ONR, I will find that ONR v.3 is horrible and leaves horrible, horrible residues. However, since ONRWW is based on ONR v.3, and I haven't found that to be "excitingly different" than any other rinseless wash (other than that it stains the media), I doubt I will be brought to my knees by the horribleness of ONR v.3, just like I haven't been cursed by the unspeakable residues of Uber, or the DG rinseless, or UWW, or even QEW that you could see little specks of wax floating in.

Or perhaps, having been worn down by life (like John Kinsella) I have simply become a pragmatist that just wants to wash his car.

Cool.
