RIP King Kong Bundy

Yea, I honestly never seen this dude. Probably just a bit before my time? He looks like a top class jobber for sure, I can tell just from the pics that he was worthy of being in the mix.

Johnny was a jobber but every once in a while he would win and look good doing it. That’s why he was “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz. I used to watch him live and on TV in the 70s. After winning a match at Highland Park High School, I cheered loudly for Johnny and he saw me. He shook my hand and it was a thrill for a 12 year old.

I think guys like that deserve to be in the conversation for the HOF. Not that the WWE Hall of Fame means all that much, but still... They should let at least 1 great jobber in per year.

And Highland High? Isn’t that where Beavis & Butthead went to school?

It was actually Highland Park, NJ. Beavis and Butthead couldn’t even spell NJ. My high school gym teacher used to organize those matches. I was able to meet some of the wrestlers in the parking lot. I met Tony Garea, Ivan Putski and Gorilla Monsoon.

It was unfortunate that Verne Gagne spent his final years in a nursing home with dementia. He got into an argument with a fellow resident and body slammed him to the floor. The other man was 97 and died from his injuries.

I was all about the WWF from 1984 till the early 90's!

@UncleDavy. That’s pretty awesome that you were able to meet some of the wrestlers at a young age. That must’ve been up there with the best experiences possible as a youngster.

Here’s my list of greats from my era. Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage, Ted Dibiase, Ravishing Rick Rude, Demolition, The Twin Towers, Ultimate Warrior, Jake the Snake Roberts, Scott Hall, Mr. Perfect, Val Venis, Bad News Brown and Ric Flair.

Ric Flair was/is the most incredible wrestler. I just watched a program (ESPN?) on him a few months ago.

The sacrifices he made to the sport, and unfortunately his family was eye opening to say the least.

I haven’t watched that yet...

Well stop shining and polishing everything you see, and watch TV for a few minutes.

Christ.............

I quit watching TV years ago. Lol. The few tidbits of “tv” viewing have to be online. The only time my TV is plugged in is Sundays during football season.

The Unpredictable Johnny Rodz IS in the WWF Hall of Fame! He was inducted in 1996.

Abdullah the Butcher, Bobo Brazil, Haystacks Calhoun, Dominic DeNucci, Pampero Firpo, Ernie Ladd, The Sheik, Tony Parisi and more, all brought to you on your local UHF channel on Saturday mornings from Cobo Hall; Big Time Wrestling!

When I was in high school my tennis team sponsored a rasslin’ match. The main event was Abdullah the Butcher vs Mr Wrestling #2. After the match we saw them in the local Huddle House eating so we stopped in dying of curiosity. It was heartbreaking to talk Abdulla the Butcher when he was out of character and actually spoke like a normal human being. Also Mr Wrestling #2 was about 5’9’’, I was taller than he was when I was in high school. Never meet your heroes.
