I have done chip repairs in a similar manor with touch up paint but not with a base clear mix. Light polish first to reveal and show any chips and scratches. Mark and clean chipped areas. Apply touch up paint and wait to cure. Wet sand and check to see if more paint is needed to completely level. Sand, cut, buff, and protect. It is time consuming, but yields good results.
