Mike, I thought I would have gotten your attention down in the Flex threads but I guess not. I recently purchased my first rotary, a Flex PE14-2, why are there no extensions that are at least 3"? For that matter, why are there no rotary extensions in different lengths?
If I lived in the UK I wouldn't be asking this question. They have rotary extensions from 1" up to 6", they even have rotary extension kits with 3 different lengths, Vertool Extension Bar Set. Here in the U.S. all there is, is 1" hex extensions. If I want a 2" extension, I have to put 2 1" extensions together. I think that is a recipe for disaster. You won't nick a mirror, you'll eat it up.
Having said what I have said, I would think that you and Autogeek would have the connections to get some of the extensions I just mentioned, or am I the only person in the U.S. that would like to have a variety of extensions for my Flex PE14-2?
Thank you in advance for looking into this.

:iagree:

It sure would be nice if there were an extension set available for our rotaries like whats available for ratchet sets.

... ...

•First:
Buy the above Vertool extension set.
(They'll be glad to sell you a set, or two)

•Then:
Buy the below adapter:

Mike,

I thought I would have gotten your attention down in the Flex threads but I guess not.

Apologies but January, February and even March are simply crazy busy.... lots of travel, lots of classes, lots of TV

Flying out Wednesday morning for this,

Coming back on Friday. Have Cars & Coffee this Saturday, and then my birthday on Sunday. Then the next week start setting up for this,

Next 3-Day Competition Ready Detail Class - February 17th, 18th, 19th

So to you and to everyone, if I'm missing in action it's not willful or on purpose... just very busy... and what people don't see is all the behind the scenes work.

:)

This what you're looking for?:

Rotary Backing Plate Extension

Ive used 2 at a time before on low speed. Then you can get the smaller 1 & 2 in plates and pads as well for those hard to reach spots.

Nope, that is not what I'm looking for. That is the only thing available and it's just 1". I don't like the idea of adapters either. Just 1 extension at the desired length and round & smooth. I don't think that's asking for too much. I really don't want to get a hex anything spinning close to a car.

That's OK, Mike. When things slow down for you, several of us would love to hear what you've come up with.

My next suggestion would be to Google "Buff Daddy" and give him a call. He will get you exactly what you're looking for.

I've been running a rotary for 27 years now and it's rare I find myself needing an extension. Of course I don't do a lot of exotics with deep air intakes and/or intricacies where they would be required. If you do some searching they are available, just not on here. ;)

Hey Rasky, I personally don't need a bunch of different lengths, I want a 3" extension for doing headlights and I have Googled and found nothing but the hex. You don't think of this if you don't want one but they are not out there.

In a pinch, you could always buy the hex extension and modify it by filing or grinding the hex corners to create a smoother surface. Even better, find a general purpose machine shop to turn it down for you.

hey skipper1, if all you need is a single 3" extension i could make you one. it would be completely round with the exception of 2 wrench flats at the polisher end. or i could leave them off it mattered. i dont really have time at the moment to make a bunch of these but i could easily whip one up for you after work one evening. just let me know

To be honest, I am learning to use a rotary but you couldn't ask for more out of an extension. To me it is perfect length for doing headlights and I'm sure for other things in the future. I couldn't be happier.
