Rotary vs Dual Action

hey guys, my question is a little off topic but this will be my first time trying out my GG 6in orbital. i have watched a lot of Mike's training videos and have a very good idea of what needs to be done. my only question is when working the car in sections do you do all the steps one the one section first? like i plan on using m105/205 combo and collinite 845 wax to finish it off. should i do all three steps on that one section then move on to the next or do m105 on each section of the car then on to the next step?

thanks
Oh my lord you would be there a week if you completed each panel. Do the whole car with 105 then 205 then 845. Do a test area with 105 and 205 to be sure that the finish is what youre after.:buffing:

Ron, why would you see holograms weeks later? Do you mean when the LSP's start wearing off, they will begin to show?
Some can use a rotary with no holograms, but most will finish down with a DA. And yes, without an IPA wipe down some oils my be left behind that are hiding some marring and will show up after your lsp starts to wear.

haha i had a feeling it would take a lot longer to do it that way, but i asked becuase the video with the test spot he does the two polishing steps.

thanks for the quick reply surfer

You won't see holograms weeks later with a DA. More detailers are hanging up their rotaries and going with a DA with the new polishes (105/205, Optimum Hyper Spray).

I have pretty much switched to all rotary use, with the right products and pads you don't have to worry about holograms. I hardly ever pick up my DA anymore.

I'm in the process of doing this myself... I have used finishing polish and grey ccs pads ion a few paint systems and finished hologram free just need more compounding practice

Are you guys sure it was hologram free? upon job completion it might be. but wait a month and see what it looks like then. You might be surprised. I just picked up a DA and i will be using it for all my finishing needs.

My rotary, unless stepping pads down and doing a 5 to 6 step process is going to leave stuff that we cant see until the waxes break down. With the DA, i didnt even order anything but a light cutting pad but only for the reason of the pads being 5.5" instead of 8.5". Other then that I will use a Rotary for all cutting needs and sanding correction. Then I will finish with the DA to ensure I have a hologram free surface. Piece of mind is a beautiful thing.

It really depends on the paint. Some clear coats are harder then others and that can really affect the outcome especially when using a rotary. .
