although fairly new to this I am surprised that compounding would not alleviate the claying step on paint that is that contaminated
Lots of people think this... lots of people think compounding by machine will take the place of claying. While compounding will remove some of the above surface bonded contaminants, it won't remove them all.

then moved onto 105 with an orange pad , this did not help, stayed with a white polish pad and 205 .
Foam pads will tend to glide over the contaminants, you'll probably make the contaminants shiny but you wont' remove them all because the grip they have on the paint is stronger than foam moving over them can remove.
Now a wool cutting pad on a rotary buffer would have a good chance of kicking them off as the individual wool fibers act as a form of abrasive besides the compound.
Believe it or not, I've had good look with Xenit.
