Rupes acquires Cyclo Toolmakers

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers

I already agreed, polishers were super duper niche (see my airplane-polishing joke above) here. I can't imagine the factory in Longmont is huge, but it's safe to say that it gives Rupes an established beachhead here for expansion, and not just the automotive polisher line.

The factory in Longmont is not that large. The entire shop takes up 3 strip-mall spaces. When I took a tour of the shop last year, the production line was run by 1 person and had 3-4 people in the office. Efficient, at best.

Similar thing just happened in the music instrument world too. "Wow" was my reaction to both.

A simliar merger happened 5 years ago between the company that owned Midas Consoles (the true gold-standard in high-end live audio consoles) and Behringer, a leader in "affordable" audio electronics. Many thought Midas would vanish into the world of profit-taking but it turns out the production standards Behringer established actually made Midas a better product. Some of the unique features Midas offered found its way into the Behringer line.

What will transpire between Rupes and Cyclo? Only time (and money) will tell.

Are you saying they are in a strip mall? I googled them and looked at the street view and it looked like a rural industrial setting, but I didn't see any Cyclo signs.

Maybe strip-mall is the incorrect word. They are in an industrial/commercial section of Longmont. They don't have any retail signage or storefront so you have to look for the front door.

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers

If they are really as small as you say, it makes the direction of this acquisition even more interesting. That means there isn't much to leverage in the way of facility or workforce, so that leaves the product and the sales/distribution channels.

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers

Years ago we had a company in Indianapolis named Sherman Carburetor. Colt Industries wanted a patent that Sherman held for a single product. Colt bought Sherman and then proceeded to shut down a decades old company and laying off the employees. later Colt was gobbled up by another mega corp. Now just the opposite seems to have happened with the purchase of Meguiar's by 3M. Meguiar's continues to grow and prosper.Lets just hope this is the case with Rupes/Cyclo.

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers

I have read some of the questions and comments.

In Europe, RUPES SpA is known for more than just high quality tools and innovative solutions. They are a family operated business with a stellar reputation in manufacturing, professional business practices, and customer service. In North America we are committed to building a team that will allow us to carry on our European legacy of excellence and put more Americans to work.

Cyclo Toolmakers was a company that combined family-owned business practice with a passion “to do it right”. I have been in this industry, in various ways, for a while. I have never, as in not once, heard anything but praise for Cyclo’s business practices, customer service or support - not from distributors or consumers. And the tools? I have seen 60-year old examples on Ebay and Craigslist that still perform flawlessly!

So fans of Cyclo rejoice! Cody Sutherland, former owner of Cyclo Toolmakers, is now the VP of Operations for RUPES USA Inc. Anybody who has had a positive experience with Cyclo, which would be everybody I have ever spoken with, will realize what a huge addition this is! Even better, all full-time positions will be retained by the people who deserve them… The team which made Cyclo so successful will now join our family.

RUPES US Inc. will add the Cyclo brand to our North American portfolio. We will continue to sell Cyclo brand products under the Cyclo name.

RUPES S.p.A, the parent company of RUPES USA Inc. is extremely excited about the possibilities for the future in North America and is thrilled to add the iconic Cyclo brand to the RUPES family. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for chiming into on the matter Todd! It's great to hear it from someone on the inside. Sounds like a great acquisition for you and team and I wish you all the best and I just hope this leads to even better machines for me to use. :props:

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers

Wow, Todd, thanks for speaking up! This is really great news.

I do not own nor have I ever tried a Cyclo, but in my experience that is exactly the sense I got: nobody has ever had a bad thing to say about Cyclo Tools or their polishers. The commitment to keeping the brand alive and perhaps growing it, keeping the staff and exploiting both companies' synergies to move both brands forward speaks volumes about Rupes.

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers

Very interesting news. Cody, the President of Cyclo is a very very very happy man!! Stock Options being called!! But overall, competition in the DA world is fierce. You either sink or swim. With all the new DA's coming out on the market (Megs, CG, Flex, etc.) is really stirring things up.

IMO, Rupes is ahead of the game with this acquisition. The bottom line is that it is the consumer will eventually win out on this with new innovative products from the "synergy" of the combination of 2 well known companies.

Very well stated, and I agree. At the end of the day, the best (but sadly not the only) way to be successful is to support and take care of your customers.

Primary to the acquisition of Cyclo is the commitment by RUPES SpA to grow in the North American market and to create a more seamless customer service and logistics experience for RUPES USA Inc.'s distribution and consumer base.

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers

Im not a fan of this. I own a cyclo and love it. Part of what drew me to it was its longtrackrecord and stable company. I see this as a thinning down of healthy compitition in the market, not "synergy" what ever that is supposed to mean.

Perhaps I can help define synergy for you. RUPES USA Inc is confident that by combing their global manufacturing, distribution and engineering with Cyclo's proven USA engineering, manufacturing, distribution and customer service we can build an even better company right here in North America. Not only is every full-time member of Cyclo now a full-time member of the RUPES SpA family, but we planning on increasing our capacity. That means more jobs for more Americans.

In effect 1+1=3. :xyxthumbs:

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers

Great News Todd

Now get to work appointing someone to take over the Polish Aggressiveness Chart over on Autopia

It doesn't

With all of the new aggressive compounds, the chart needs a re-work.....maybe go up to 12, so it can be based off of the Meguiar's compounds that many if is arr familiar with
