Rupes or Griots Boss?

I have and use a Rupes, and have the blue and yellow polishes. I love them.

While I've only owned one Griot's machine (1st gen gg6), I really appreciate the in depth overview of the BOSS system. Jeff Brown did a killer job presenting and explaining everything clearly, and thoroughly. He went over all the available pad/compound/plate/washer options. That in and of itself was yet another way they service the system, and it's available to everyone, anytime on youtube.

I might not ever lay my hands on any of their machines again, but I absolutely respect what they've done to enhance the long throw phenomenon.

Well said 👍

Their fast correcting cream paired with their mf pads makes for a killer combo. I just used it as a one step on the white truck I did last weekend. I have the G21 and use it for 6.5" pads and it is a beast with the washer mod.

Damn... finished out really nice!

I've got the Duetto with MF, and Zephyr kicking some butt right now. For cutting as well as it does, it sure does finish out nice too.

Have not busted out the GG21 out of the box..will the washer mod work on the GG like the Rupes?

Yes sir. They actually include a washer that fits the recessed sides of where the shaft is. It's a little flimsy... I think someone around here changed theirs out for a different one if I remember correctly.

It is definitely okay though - they talk about it in the manual that comes with it :dblthumb2:

The washer that comes with the unit is a little thin--you can make one yourself with a thicker washer from the hardware store. I called Griot's customer service and they sent me two additional washers for my G15--I only needed two, but it made a big difference.

Thanks, now I remember the washer included with the unit. My question is if Griot designed this machine from the ground up like some suggested. Why did they have to mod it with a flimsy washer?

They include the washer for the mod because even though most of us will do it, it is not required. Most will do it as it will cut quicker due to the faster rotation. However for the average Joe that is not trying to achieve the maximum amount of cut quicker will probably not do this. I actually doubled up the washers on my G21 after talking with Jeff and the thing rotates like crazy now.

I can understand that, but wouldn't even a noobie want faster correction? :props:

The G21 is a serious machine and a person. That doesn't know the the technique can damage the paint if they don't know what there doing.

This machine can generate a lot of heat in a hurry, as it is unlikely. For a person that does not know what there doing, the no washer is a safer alternative.

The machine is easy to work and does the work for you.

And still gets amazing results with no washer.

However even in the Boss videos explained by Jeff brown the G21 is a professional tool and is to be taken serious.

I called customer service about 2 weeks back and asked about if they changed the washer since release.( this I heard) and the woman I spoke to didnt seem to know anything about it. And said no one has called with any problems.

Mine almost seems like its tilted. So it free spins for a second or so then stops. on one edge of it it still touches.

Overall I love the G21. Going to look into a new washer.
