I have a Flex 3401 and am very happy with it. I've tried almost every foam pad that AG sells and some work extremely well and some don't for me. After ordering 3 each of the pads made for the Rupes and using them on my Flex I wasn't pleased with the way they worked. That's my fault not the pads or the machine.
This morning I dug out my old variable speed Makita rotary, replaced the brushes and to my surprise it worked fine.
Then I proceeded to try all of the foam pads that I have, and that's a lot, on the rotary. I used Wolfgang, 3M, and Meguiars compounds and will soon try Menzerna which I ordered today.
All of the foam pads worked extremely well on the rotary especially the ones made for the Rupes. Really I was blown away at how well they worked. I tried speeds from 0 to 2000 RPM and the results were amazing. No sling off of compound or polish, no swirl marks and a beautiful finish no matter what speed or which product that I tried. Of course the slower speeds worked best for finishing. After each trial I checked the finish with my Brinkman swirl finder light and was amazed at the clarity.
I'm just posting this for all of you old rotary buffer men like me. If you haven't tried these pads yet, you will be pleasantly surprised when you do. I will try to post some pictures soon.
