Rupes Pads

Hey Tundra, thanks for the feedback. Just to confirm, you're referring to the MF yellow pad + sonax perfect finish? Is there a reason you prefer the MF instead of the foam?

No.....

Sonax Perfect Finish does not work well with any microfiber pads, at least in my experience. SPF with the Rupes yellow or white foam pads works extremely well. SPF has a tendency to build up, so make sure you have plenty of pads :dblthumb2:

Sorry if I said it backwards before.

So basically you cant use any pad on a Rupes 21 machine other than a Rupes pad?

I tried with buff n shine foam pads.. it didnt turn out well. I think it was due to the larger throw

So I invested in green and yellow foam pads from Rupes to try out this Spring to see the results

You are free to use any pad you wish.

I'm going to say this just one last time:

I've had four non-Rupes pads fly off of my 21 while polishing. On the fourth time I didn't pull it away fast enough and gouged the front quarter panel of a Porsche. It cost me $1600 to have it fixed. So how many Rupes pads can you buy for $1600?

I think you are one of the members that Ive read that has this issue. Ive talked with a couple pros on the forum via PM that use different pads without issues.

I talked with Kevin Brown about this also with him saying the same thing. I understand the Rupes pads were made for the machine, but he explained he has used other pads also.

I do understand your situation Tundra since this has happened to you. Do you use the Rupes polishes with the pads or other manufacturers?

I use Sonax Perfect Finish, FG400 on occasion, Scholl Concept's, and Rupes polishes. That's it.

I had one buff and shine MF pad thrown off the machine and two black foam pads that separated from the velcro. Maybe it was just me. But since you had the chance to speak with a lot of professionals, BnF pads should work well overall

I'm sticking with full Rupes system for this year's polishing work (machine/pad/polish) and I'll let you know how it goes

For those with experience with the Rupes microfiber pads, how many do you typically use on a sedan with light marring?

Is it just the 21 that has non Rupes pad issues?

I have had only good experiences using my 15 a whole bunch of time with BNS and Hydrotechs or whatever else.

I need a little help hear to ensure I get the proper sized Rupes pads. I have the 21 on the way, including the 5" plate. They are listed on AG as 6 and 7" pads, however, I reviewed Kevin Brown's page, which has a drawing with the dimensions of the pads. Do I go by the bottom (attaching point) or top (pad face) measurement to determine the correct sized pads?

Pad measurements:

5" pad
bottom is 130mm (5") this attaches to plate
top is 150mm (6")

AG has this pad listed as a 6" pad:
Rupes 150 mm (6 inch) Yellow Polishing Foam Pad

6" pad
bottom is 155mm (6") this attaches to plate.
top is 180mm (7")

AG has this pad listed as a 7" pad:
Rupes 180 mm (7 inch) Yellow Polishing Foam Pad

So, are these 5 and 6" inch pads or 6 and 7" pads?

Thanks

No problems using meg mf or LC pads on my 21, most others have 0 problems also.. just inspect your pads and don't remove polisher from paint while pad is still spinning and Don't put pressure on this machine like other DAs, the rupes will do all the work.

same pad, different numbers, different people selling them.

5 inch pad from Kevin Brown is the same 6 inch pad from AG

The 7 inch pad goes on the Rupes 21 standard backing plate.
The 6 inch pad goes on the Rupes 21 with 5 inch backing plate.
The 6 inch backing plate is 148mm, this will only hold the 7 inch pad (6" from Kevin)

The 5 inch backing plate is 125mm, this will only hold the 6 inch pad (5" from Kevin)

Thanks. I just needed confirmation because I see them listed differently on different web sites.

Here are the 6 inch pads that go on the 5 inch backing plate.
They fit almost perfect on a 5 inch plate.
