Why does the company not ship the polisher with a washer already installed?
 
no clue..you would think if they say they wont void the warranty and pretty much every user does the mod they would just change up and add it in the package

(seriously though, maybe DA's in Europe fall under the same tool classification of various other rotating tools that have prohibitions due to spinning blades, and it would have been too much to expect lawmakers/regulators to understand the differences so they made it one-size-fits-all)
 
What washer are you using and does it stop spinning when you apply to much pressure?
 
just a standard 1/4" washer i got at home depot and yes it will stop if you press to hard its still a free spindle style DA like the PC and Griots but it doesnt stall as easy as a PC

Yes, it will stop spinning when too much pressure is applied and on curves. This washer mod does not make it a forced rotation machine (Flex).
 
It's just a habit of mine. (Need to break it) lol

I avoid edges at all costs. Even with a PC. However, when I went to Meguiar's 101. They were running the Meg's DA over edges like nothing and without any worries. It was pretty nice to see actually.
 
People are too paranoid about edges. The only time to be super cautious about edges is when using a rotary, sanding, unless you are dealing with super thin clear.

That is where my habit of avoiding edges comes from :D

I am new to using a DA, even polishing factory paint.

I did used to use a DA when sanding repaints however, air powered one.
 
It's easier to buy an 8mm washer and you don't to do any trimming and it fits perfect.
 
If you buff a car that has been buffed before by someone else prior to you make sure you inspect the paint well because you can burn a weaken clear coat with any polisher. Trust me I know.
